It’s not just a mere marketing exaggerated marketing gimmick for DLF Indian Premiere League 2011, but quite the truth, as during the IPL Season, the television transforms into one big magnet attracting everybody as if like iron chips. Yes, that is the IPL mania. With winters, summers and monsoons, we now have an IPL season when come snow, hail or rain, its only cricket shining everywhere.
“8 April se 51 din ke liye Bharat Band Rahega !”
From the very first season, IPL attracted a lot of attention and lately, a lot of controversies as well with corruption charges on IPL founder, Lalit Modi. But IPL being the kind of phenomenon that it is, will continue despite whatsoever adversities. The format for IPL4 has changed with the addition of two new teams of Kochi and Pune, to the existing eight and increase in number of matches played.
The DLF IPL 2011 auction, held in January in Bangalore, was quite power packed with some unexpected happenings and exorbitant sums. While Gautam Gambhir, formerly part of Delhi Daredevils, became the highest priced player after being paid a handsome sum of 2.4 million US$, Sourav Ganguly, our very own dada, had to face the humiliation of being picked up by any team, coming in face of dismal performance of his team Kolkata Knight Riders, in the last seasons. A total of 460 players participated, out of which 360 got selected for a cumulative amount of $90million. DLF IPL 2011 is going to be the first IPL minus the grandeur of Lalit Modi and is going to be the very first for Chirayu Amin, present chief of IPL. Hence, questions are bound to be raised regarding the success of IPL4, but if the auctioning process which is the first step in IPL is anything to go by, then it would not be wrong to say that a lot of those questions have already been silenced.
IPL4 fixtures have been made public and the net is swamped with their reports. IPL4 would be played across India and the IPL T20 schedule which is 51 day long, is pretty hectic, considering the number of extra matches that would have to be played with the entry of two new teams. Defending champions Chennai Super Kings’ home ground, Chennai, will be hosting both the opening and the final match of DLF Indian Premier League, 2011. The matches would begin on 8 April and extend to 28 May, with 70 matches to be played in total. Each team will play a total of 14 games, 7 at home and 7 away from home.
Following is the list of teams, who would be sweating it out in DLF Indian Premiere League 2011:
- Chennai Super Kings
- Mumbai Indians
- Delhi Daredevils
- Royal Challengers Bangalore
- Deccan Chargers
- Kolkata Knight Riders
- Rajasthan Royals
- Kings XI Punjab
- Kochi Tuskers Kerala (New Addition)
- Sahara Pune Warriors (New Addition)
Indian Premiere League is a marvel, a festival that brings all the Indians together and makes the world take notice. DLF Indian Premiere League2011 promises to be bigger and better, with the festival patakas guaranteed!

Chennai Super Kings The defending champions, and also the winners of the Champions league T20, are still lead by the Indian World Cup winning captain MS Dhoni and if the temperament of their leader is anything to go by then they will be again a tough team to beat in the competition.
Last year’s runners up and a team that impressed everybody with their performance during the competition will again be title contenders. They have retained almost every player that performed in their previous stints, apart from pace spearhead Zaheer Khan.
Kolkata Knight Riders
Lead by opener Gautam Gambhir, the team looks a balanced one when compared with the last three squads that were there in the previous editions. The experience of Jacques Kallis and Brett Lee should help the team, while Ryan ten Doeschate could be another one to watch out for.
Delhi, too, has made a lot of changes in the squad but they still have Virender Sehwag and David Warner in the batting department, while the presence of Irfan Pathan should be handy with the ball.
The team who won the opening edition of the Indian Premier League is lead by the spin king Shane Warne. Apart from Warne, who is one of the most important members of the team, the squad also includes swashbuckling batsmen Ross Taylor and all-rounders Shane Watson and Paul Collingwood.
Winners of the second edition, the Chargers in the fourth year are not lead by dynamic wicket-keeper batsmen Adam Gilchrist, who is now in Kings XI Punjab. The team however will depend on wicket-keeper batsmen Kumara Sangakara in the batting, while Dale Steyn will be the one to watch out for with the ball.
Kings XI Punjab
After not being successful in the last two IPL seasons the side will be lead by Adam Gilchrist who was instrumental in winning the title for the Deccan Chargers.
However, the side will miss the local lad and man of the tournament in the World Cup –Yuvraj Singh who will play for Sahara Pune Warriors now.
Royal Challengers Bangalore
Another team that has been consistent in performance in the previous two editions should continue its good run this time too.
Lead by New Zealand’s Daniel Vettori the team has an experienced captain. However, the most important addition to the squad is pacer Zaheer Khan who played a key role in winning the World Cup and was also the joint highest wicket taker in tournament.
Sahara Pune Warriors
An unknown entity and playing their first IPL, the team, however, has the man of the tournament during the World Cup. Yuvraj Singh’s form with the bat and ball is the biggest positive. The squad also includes Graeme Smith and Kiwi batsman Jesses Ryder.
The second team which will be playing the tournament for the first time should be the underdogs. The squad however does have Muthiah Muralidharan and VVS Laxman, whose experience should be of help for the team.
