Model-turned-actor Meera Chopra is all set to take tollywood by storm with her charming looks, bewitching smile and yes her undeniable acting skills. Her first telugu release Bangaram had a lukewarm response but the lady has just not been noticed as another pretty face. She is said to have justified her role. Currently in hyderabad for shooting of Satyam, Shivam, Sundaram Meera is comfortably perched reading a book waiting to be called for a shot.
The july born delhi girl has come a long way. From being a model to a media girl and then films. “This is not new to me, i’ve been used to these flash lights, constant attention aeons back. I’ve always been interested in mass media and communication and did my studies in the US.” After an elaborate grad exam, Meera came back to her country looking for some full fledged work in mass media and joined the NDTV. Well, after a brief stint she left that for films.
How was it working with Nitin? She answers softly,”when i saw him for the first time i thought here was another serious person but later on i realised he is very warm and makes you feel comfortable. Phew, it’s such a pleasure working here.” Did she hate the work experience in Chennai? “Nothing like that. It has all been resolved. ” Unlike the other heroines who have chaperones and matrons and mummy, and maasi’s accompanyng them Meera handles her work independently. “I have always been independent and that way i work better. If i have someone accompanying me for shootings it becomes a big headache for me. I have to take care of them and i tend to worry over them, see if they are comfy, if they had khaana etc, if they are bored. But if i am on my own i’m responsible only for myself. I just can’t take any tensions or worry’s in my work or personal life. I’m a hassle free person.”
But doesn’t she miss her family? “I do at times and when i do i just pack and go. I can never work at a stretch, i need a short break in between.” what does she do in her spare time? “I love shopping, i freak out on anything, i shop so much on bags, shoes, clothes just about everything and when i do i become so selfish i forget to buy for people back home.” And what about hindi films? “I prefer to work in south films. Here people recognise you but in Mumbai if you are not in the glam world no one recognises you, you can do your thing. I value my freedom much more. I’m happy with what i’m doing right now.” With that the pretty girl signs off for another take

Meera Chopra Interview
What you miss the most about home ..
My family, the food and most of all my room! I just can’t sleep anywhere else!
Pros of being a celeb …
The preferential treatment. The love people have for you. The fan following. Basically all the adulation.
The feature you get the most complimented on …
People go, “Oh you have , such lovely hair” or “What i beautiful eyes you have” a lot!
If not an actress …
A news reader. I really wanted to do that. I even worked at a news channel in Delhi.
Your weirdest phobia ..
I meet everything head on. I tryout new stuff and then decide whether I want to try it again or never!
Totally addicted to ..
Besides cinema, it’s the internet, I check Face book about 8 times a day, and for even the smallest query I go to online, and my favorite site is LiveIndia.com
Fave designers …
Essentially, I am jeans and T-shirt girl and not a designer clothes person
Fashion icon …
Sushmita Sen. She is the ultimate diva. She dresses with class and elegance. And when it comes to looking hot, I admire Bipasha Basu. These two ladies, I really look up to when it comes to being fashionable.
Among your contemporaries …
Shriya is the only one who has good taste and style, and carries herself well. But otherwise, I think most South Indian celebs dress very loud. I’m sorry to say this, but except for Shriya, I think nobody here comes even close to being called fashionable!
The worst thing you’ve worn:
I hate wearing the folk style sari. I just hated the sight of it and did not want to wear it. But I ended up wearing it anyway! I hope I won’t have to wear it again!
Brand crazy …
I hate brands! I find them dull, plain and overpriced! As long the clothes fit well and suit my style I don’t pay attention to the brand.
The one thing you wanna conceal with your clothes …
My stomach. ALWAYS!
The one thing you wanna accentuate …
My shoulders! I make a conscious effort to show them off!
What clothes will you absolutely not wear for a movie?
A bikini!
Shopping …
Shopping is the only way to get me out of my lazy moods! I love to shop for clothes, bags and shoes! I’m a very selfish gal when it comes to shopping, because I shop only for myself. I just forget everybody else!
Friends & Haunts
I have no cinema friends. There are people within the industry whom I talk to, but I cannot call them my friends. All my friends are from college and from where I worked. Rather than pubbing and going dancing, I prefer holidaying with my friends.
Books & Movies
In college, I was glued to reading. As an English Honours student, I had so much to read: Shakespeare, poetry and so many classics, that my reading phase is now
over! I prefer watching movies. I don’t mind even a C Class movie. But I just can’t watch my movies! Because every time I watch them, I feel that I could have done much better!
Spa
I go to the parlour at least twice a month out of necessity. I go to the spa only on the day when I look at myself in the mirror and I see a shabby person looking back at me! I indulge in myself only if I need it. But once there, I get the complete package!
Work out
I hate to work out! I was always skinny, but since I came to South India, I’ve been adding on the kilos. The worst part is that I even try to diet! I love junk food. But now I do work out. Right now, I’m concentrating on toning up, because I’ve lost a lot of weight and I’m not one of those gals who is crazy about being stick thin. I look at some of them and think, “Gosh they might collapse any moment!” It’s just plain stupid, I think.
