Pa Ranjith exploits Superstar Rajnikanth‘s larger-than-life persona to the hilt.
Synopsis: A gangster from Tirunelveli, who is the King of Dharavi, fights for keeping the land safe from mighty politicians and the land mafia.
We get a rather casual intro for Rajini, but the immediate shot ups the ante. Theatre erupts in joy to see Superstar in his true elements. While the love track with Zareena (Huma) threatens to go the Kabali way for a bit, it is quickly salvaged by an amazing dinner setup between the two ex-lovers, where Kaala explains his present priorities to her.
Superstar steals the show with his performance here. We get the Rajnikanth of yore, with a typical masala stunt block pre-interval sequence, where the umbrella becomes an ultimate weapon for Thalaivar. Whistles guaranteed.
Sparks fly high in the confrontation-cum-introduction scene between Nana Patekar and Rajini. It’s amazing to see Nana pitted against Superstar on-screen.
Nana even says Magizchi while shaking hands with Kaala! Watch out for the interval scene, in which the whistles, claps and hoots will make the dialogues inaudible. You get a Padayappa style face-off.
