Miss Earth is a unique beauty pageant which is aimed at promoting Environmental awareness and is a part of one of the Big Four International pageants. The winner of the Miss Earth beauty pageants is bestowed with the title of Miss Earth.
Since its inception, the pageant is held annually in the Philippines, except in the year 2010, when it was held in Vietnam. As we celebrate Earth Day today let us look at some of the interesting facts about Nicole Faria, the first Indian woman to win the prestigious Miss Earth title.
She won Miss Talent, the first special award in the 10th Miss Earth pageant. She performed a sizzling belly dance that combined Oriental and Middle Eastern style in an event that raised VND 100 million, which was donated to the HCM City Red Cross, to support flood victims in the central region of Vietnam.
She was featured in fashion magazines like Elle, Cosmopolitan, Vogue etc. She has also walked the ramp at the Lakme Fashion Week, Wills Lifestyle Indian Fashion Week and Colombo Fashion Week.
In June 2011 she was chosen as the global brand ambassador for Frédérique Constant Geneve, wherein a certain percentage of the proceeds from all the watches go to the International Children’s Heart Foundation.
She was one of the featured models in the exclusive Kingfisher Swimsuit Calendar for 2014, shot in the Philippines by renowned photographer, Atul Kasbekar.
