Super model and Bollywood actress Poonam Pandey is likely to make her debut in Kannada film industry. She made her on screen debut with the Hindi flick Nasha.
After Yana Gupta, Rakhi Sawant, Mallika Sherawath and Veena Malik, it’s Poonam’s turn to shake her leg for an item number in Kannada.
Speaking to leading daily, the actress confirmed, “Yes, I am finally coming to the South, I have been looking for an opportunity to make my debut in the South and this song seemed ideal. I am currently in discussions with my team to finalise my look in the song, but rest assured it will be Poonam Pandey style.”
Earlier, director Prem had said that he will be making Poonam Pandey to shake leg for an item number in his movie Prem Adda, but due to her unavailable dates, Poonam was replaced by the Hollywood hottie Scarlett Johansson.
It is said that director Nandha Prabhu has geared up to bring Poonam Pandey on board for his upcoming flick Love Is Poison, starring Rajesh of Halli Hydha Pyatege Bandha fame. Rajesh made his debut with Jungle Jackie, with Aishwarya.
Poonam Pandey‘s Sandalwood debut has also made the mass audience to eagerly wait for the movie Love is Poison.
It’s A Colloquial Number
Director Nandha Prabhu said, “It’s a very colloquial number, to be shot against a dhaba kind of set. It will feature the hero and a couple of his friends celebrating the hero’s love life.
Poonam Is Excited To Debut In Sandalwood
“Poonam heard the song before agreeing to do it. She seemed excited to be making her debut in Sandalwood,” director added.
On Screen Debut
Poonam Pandey made her on screen debut with Bollywood flick Nasha, in which she played the role of teacher, who ends up having a sexual relationship with one of her student.
In 2011, Poonam was featured in the Bangalore based UB group’s Kingfisher Calender and also in 29 other calenders.
Poonam was in limelight for posing naked for the magazine, International Bussiness Times, after Kolkota Knight Riders, won the finals of Indian Premier League (IPL) season 5.
Shooting In October
Sources said that Poonam is likely to be in Bangalore city for the shoot, which may take place in the first week of October.
Poonam Pandey attacks Sunny Leone, Mallika Sherawat and Sherlyn Chopra!
Poonam Pandey talks about what sets her apart from the rest of the sex sirens in Bollywood
Do you feel that there are some people trying to pull you down?
Yes, I feel that, but I care a damn. I have full confidence in myself and I know how to deal with people. I would like my work to speak, rather than me saying bad things about them.
While most people compare your journey with Sunny Leone‘s, we feel you’re going the Mallika Sherawat way. She too rejected skin show during Murder, but later accepted it. She too was controversial even before her debut film hit the screen….
Please don’t compare me with any actor, especially a porn actor, coz my movie deals with emotions and not just ooh and aaah… I do things on my own and don’t follow anybody. I can’t stop people and the media comparing me with people they like. Seriously, I don’t like being compared with a porn star.
Who’s your competitor?
I’m not here to compete with anyone and I don’t think anybody can compete with me.
We have seen bold films and coming-of-age love stories like Ek Choti Si Love Story and even Nishabd. How different is Nasha?
Firstly, those films didn’t feature Poonam Pandey. So that’s a major difference! Secondly, Nasha is a fresh, new genre film. Everything is full on paisa vasool.
Would you ever fall for a married man?
I’ve romanced an 18-year-old boy in Nasha. Isme hee itna mazaa aa raha hai toh why would I fall for a married man? Ladkon ki kameen hai kya?
No, but that’s the latest trend in Bollywood – young heroines marrying older men!
You’re right, but I don’t follow trends. I set new trends.
You rejected 40 Bollywood offers….
I know, but I never select a project just on the basis of a filmmaker – whether he’s successful or new, or irrespective of the project being big or small budget. I go with my instinct.
You said you’ll serve a lot more to your fans in Nasha than what they saw in the posters….
That means everything! There’s so much difference between a photograph and a moving object. I haven’t shown anything yet. Film mein jo dikhega, uske baad logo ke muh khule ke khule reh jayenge!
Critics ke muh kaise band karoge?
Unka bhi apne aap ho jayega. Movie mein bahut kuch hai dekhne laayak.
You want to become Bollywood’s most controversial star?
I don’t like to get into controversies, but I fall into them. But I know how to handle things.
Is a commercial saaf suthra U-rated film a strict NO for you?
Well, this is just a beginning. Aur waise bhi, dikha dikha ke kitna dikhaoge, yaar! You have to serve something else. In future you’ll definitely see Poonam Pandey doing different characters.
Recently social activists tore down posters of Nasha…
My message to them – don’t tear my movie posters; I’m an actor, not a terrorist.
Does casting couch exist in Bollywood?
Nobody can force you to compromise. It’s completely your call. I haven’t faced anything like that.
Do you think the fame you’ve attained through social media has brought you work?
Yes, I think social networking sites help you connect with people and your fans on an individual level. At times you come across people from the same fraternity, so you meet them, discuss things and that’s how you get work.
You tweeted – ‘Attitude is like underwear. One should wear it but not show it’. Was that your own or you read it somewhere?
(Grins) Oh, that’s a very old tweet. Sometimes an idea just strikes you and you tweet it just for the sake of your fans, thinking they will like it. It’s just for fun. If tomorrow I start giving lectures on Twitter, my fans would wonder what’s wrong with Poonam!
You said – Agar desh ka bhala ho, toh mujhe naked hone mein koi problem nahin…
Yes, why not!
Any director on your wish list?
Madhur Bhandarkar, Mahesh Bhatt…now you must be wondering why I’m naming controversial directors (laughs loud). Jokes aside, I like their work and want to work with them.
Is there anything personal that your fans are unaware of?
(Laughs) After posting my bedroom pictures and my bathroom videos, do you really think so? Sabse zyada personal cheezein share kar di. In my case, everything is transparent and khullam khulla.
Are you single?
Very much…and ready to mingle! I would definitely share good news with my fans when I come across my Mr Perfect.
Your career track is quite similar to Sherlyn Chopra’s and Veena Malik’s…
I really don’t want to comment on that. I’m tired of these questions and comparisons.
Poonam Pandey: I haven’t shown anything yet!
‘Don’t tear my movie posters – I’m an actor, not a terrorist!’ says the aspiring starlet as she opens up about her debut movie Nasha, going naked in the name of social causes, falling out with contemporaries, porn, care-a-damn attitude, being taboo in society, the casting couch and much more…
It’s almost unheard of for a newcomer in B-town to create this kind of storm. From making bold and daring statements about her contemporaries and posing uninhibitedly naked on magazine covers to releasing her own uncensored bedroom and bathroom videos, the starlet has done it all. Though she has paid a high price for being a free spirit, Poonam Pandey remains undaunted; spending time with her is like going on a road trip, destination unknown, but exciting. Though people see her as just a bimbette who can look sexy, Ms P takes it in her stride and makes this conversation spicy and hot…like she is.
From being nobody to becoming Poonam Pandey – a controversial journey!
Wow! I like the way you framed it. I feel my journey has been like a typical Bollywood heroine who comes from a modelling background but unlike them, one incident – my running naked after Indian team’s World Cup victory – changed my life. Later, my name got embroiled in several controversies… famous toh hona hi tha!
You shot to fame by stripping. Was that the only way to get into Bollywood? Were you not ashamed of what people would think about you?
No, why would I be ashamed? Agar aapko ek cheez se itna faayda hua hai, toh us cheez se shame kyu hona hai? Those were my decisions and I stand by them. People will keep saying things and I’m also tired of giving explanations. It hardly matters to me now. If they think it was a desperate attempt, then I proudly accept it.
Your stripping has fetched you international fame. Akon and Jonty Rhodes (cricketer) expressed their wish to meet you. What makes you special?
Nothing special – I’m a normal person. The only special thing is that I love to do everything khullam khulla, even things that one is supposed to do in the bedroom or bathroom. That’s the difference, not my specialness (laughs loud). But this is what I am. Stripping is my habit and I can’t change it.
Any celebrity whose tweets you love to read?
Honestly speaking, more than following, I like to be followed. I like reading Amitabh Bachchan and Anupam Kher’s interesting tweets. My tweethearts (Twitter followers) matter to me. Any celebrity writing something about me doesn’t matter to me as much as my fans and my followers do. I’m indebted to them for their love and blessings.
You’re bold enough to be considered taboo in our ‘liberal’ society. While a part of the Indian population admires you, another major chunk criticises you.…
The percentage of people who adore and love me is much higher than the group of people who dislike me and my work. If criticising me makes them happy, it’s their problem. I’ll do what I like and don’t really care what people think or write about me.
Some commercial B-town babes seem to be insecure about you – Chitrangda Singh called you a ‘man’ on Twitter and Bipasha Basu tweeted, ‘Today’s guys are losers’, to which you strongly reacted…
Yes, I remember the controversies. But I wonder whether it was Chitrangda and Bipasha’s original account and not fake! I personally like their work and I believe they wouldn’t get into something like this. Why will Chitrangda do that? I have got nothing to do with her and vice versa. Why fight in public? It only helped Chitrangda coz after that incident, her followers increased to a large extent. Maybe that was the way to gain followers?
Bollywood’s A-list filmmakers look down upon you as a mere sex object. Does that hurt?
Is it! I wouldn’t want to praise myself. But I would request those A-list filmmakers to watch Nasha. They would certainly get their answers.
Where does this confidence come from?
Mujhe bachpan se hi chote chote kapde pehenne ki aadat hai. So it’s not that one fine day I got some vardaan of confidence to strip and show my body. This is me. You can’t change yourself.
