After making a forgettable debut as director in Kollywood with the Bharath–Sandhya–Bhavana starrer Koodal Nagar in 2007, filmmaker Seenu Ramasamy came back very strongly in 2010 with Thenmerku Paruvakatru which was not only a commercial success but also won the national award for ‘best feature film’ in Tamil when the national awards were announced in 2011.
Thenmerku Paruvakatru did many things to many artistes connected with it. It won for Vairamuthu a national award for ‘best lyrics’ and for Saranya Ponvannan her first-ever national award for ‘best actress’. Vijay Sethupathy, who who got to play the lead role for the first time with this film, has moved ahead and his career graph has taken an upward march ever since.
After earning some reputation, Seenu made Neer Paravai last year which had Vishnu and Sunaina in lead roles. It also won critical acclaim and made many believe that Seenu, an assistant of cinematographer-director Balu Mahendra, was here to stay. He is being considered as a film-maker who won’t make any commercial ‘compromises’ to make his films succeed commercially.
Seenu’s fourth film as director has been named Sontha Ooru and hasVijay Sethupathy and Attakathi Dinesh playing lead roles. Produced by producer-director Lingusamy’s Thirupathi Brothers, Seenu first thought of casting Vimal as the second hero to star along with Vijay. At the very last moment, Dinesh stepped in. Vimal was also in the reckoning to star in Neer Paravai but eventually, Vishnu bagged the lead role in it.
As of now, Seenu hasn’t revealed anything about the script of Sontha Ooru. The heroines, other actors and technicians to work in the film are being finalized.
