A Sri Lankan organization has put forward a proposal to the national government in Sri Lanka to consider banning the release of Tamil heroes like superstar Rajnikanth, Kamal Hassan, Ajith and Sarathkumar for their participation in the day-long fast organized by the Tamil film industry to protest against the Lankan Government’s ‘genocide’ of Eelam Tamils and its continued apathy toward the ethnic population living there.
The film industry joined the protest, kick-started in a grand manner by the school and college students in the State, by organizing a day-long protest fast last month.
Ravana Balaya, a Lankan Buddhist organization, has started protesting against the screening of films starring those heroes who expressed their opposition to Lankan Government and its people. It organized a protest meeting in front of the the Film Chamber building in Lanka and raised slogans against Tamil heroes, demanding a blanket ban on the release in Lanka of films starring these heroes.
Tamil organizations based in Lanka, however, have dismissed Ravana Balaya’s pleas for ban on Tamil films as a ‘political stunt’ attempted by it to garner publicity.
