In yet another twist to the harassment angle on heroine Anjali, the talented actress went missing from yesterday morning.
Accusing her step-mother and another director for harassing her for money, Anjali moved to Hyderabad the other day along with her ‘baabai‘. Both stayed in a hotel in the city and Anjali as usual attended her shooting here. However from yesterday morning the actress went missing from her hotel room when her ‘Baabai‘ went outside. Her mobile was switched off from then and her whereabouts are not known. Venkatesh and Ram’s Bol Bachan remake shooting got halted abruptly due to the unavailability of Anjali.
Anjali, who had been part of movies like Kattradhu Thamizh, Angadi Theru, Engeyum Eppodhum and the recently released Settai, alleged that recently when she sustained an electric shock while shooting for a movie, Bharathy Devi did not care for her and even compelled her to continue shooting the very next day’.
Anjali debuted into films with Telugu movie ‘Photo‘ long back and became a star with movies like Shopping Mall, Journey and Seethamma Vaakitlo. She is also starring in Raviteja‘s ‘Balupu‘ and ‘Bol Bachan‘ remake.
Anjali alleges harassment by ‘Mom’
Actress Anjali is alleging that she is being harassed by her family and has moved to Hyderabad. We hear that the actress is now claiming that Bharathi Devi, who accompanied her to shoots and events and was considered to be her mother, is in fact not her mother but her step-mother.
While the actress could not be reached by SouthDreamz.com despite numerous attempts to reach her in Hyderabad, a source in the industry revealed, “According to Anjali‘s statement, her step-mom and director Mu Kalanjiyam are allegedly harassing her, and her family in Chennai has swindled the money she has earned acting in films so far. So, she says she has been left with no choice but to flee to Hyderabad. She has also said that if anything happens to her, the blame should fall on her stepmother and Kanlanjiyam.”
Reportedly, the actress has also stated that her step-mom had been using her as an ‘ATM machine‘. When SouthDReamz.com contacted director Kalanjiyam, he expressed surprise at Anjali‘s allegations.
“I’m really baffled why Anjali dragged my name into this. I don’t have any connection with her and her family except for the fact that I introduced her in films. That film (Sathamindri Muthamidu) never saw the light of the day but her family continued to consult with me on her future projects as a well-wisher,” he says.
He adds that he was unaware of the fact that Anjali‘s companion was her aunt and not her actual mother.
“Even I’m shocked by this. I have gone to their house and I have seen a photograph of Anjali (when she was a young girl) with her mom, dad and two brothers. I’m also acquainted with the rest of their family and have known them for 10 years. But I never realized Bharathi Devi was not her actual mom,” he explains.
Anjali is part of Kalanjiyam‘s current film Oor Suttri Puranam, and the director says he is now in a dilemma if she will continue with the project.
“She has already shot for 15 days for the film and never complained. She has even given me dates in May for the next schedule. Now, I am worried what will happen to the film since it is my own production. I have already invested 40 lakh in the film,” he says.
However, there are other industry sources who claim that it is Kalanjiyam who is the cause of all these issues. In recent times, it’s being said that her stepmother stopped accompanying the actress to shoots and it was her father who used to come with her. Apparently, her stepmom also doesn’t allow anyone access to the actress.
Meanwhile, there are stories doing the rounds that she will not act in Tamil films any more. But a source tells us that she had expressed keen interested in acting in Sundar’s Kalakalappu 2 which will kickstart in July this year.
Anjali says ‘My step-mom & Director Kalanjiyam harassing me’
Southern actress Anjali has accused her step-mother Bharati Devi and Tamil director Mu Kalanjiyam of harassment. She has alleged that the two have robbed her of all savings.
“I’ve been mentally tortured by my step-mother and director Kalanjiyam. Both of them pose a threat to my life and I fear staying anywhere close to them. I moved out of Chennai yesterday (Monday) after I brought the allegations public. I’m currently in Hyderabad but would not wish to reveal my whereabouts,” Anjali told IANS.
Following the allegations Anjali made Monday, she went into hiding and was unavailable for contact.
“My step-mom and her husband used to accompany me for shoots and would never allow me to have my own space. They wouldn’t let me talk to my friends or family. Currently, I only own one property in Chennai, all other assets and savings are in her name,” she added.
“My step-mom knew director Kalanjiyam since my debut. They both have been constantly harassing me since then and treated me like a slave. I was merely a money making machine for my step-mother. I couldn’t take it any longer and, therefore, decided to blow the whistle on them,” Said Anjali, who has filed a legal complaint against her step-mother and director Kalanjiyam.
However, Bharati Devi, Anjali’s step-mother, rubbishes all allegations.
“I adopted her from my elder sister when she was 15 years old and since then have been taking good care of her. I still can’t understand why she would accuse me of harassment. She says I looted a crore of her savings, but in reality she is only getting paid in lakhs for her movies and, therefore, she can’t possibly have so much money,” Bharati Devi told IANS.
“I accompany her to shoots because I believe she needed some supervision. It is very easy to get carried away at this young age in this business and, therefore, I was there to protect her,” she added.
Anjali is known for successful films such as Engaeyum Eppothum, Kalakalappu and Seethamma Vakitlo Sirimalle Chettu.
She made her cinematic debut with Tamil drama Sathamindri Muthamidu, which was directed by Kalanjiyam. However, that film never saw the light of the day.
Director Kalanjiyam too is shocked at Anjali’s allegations.
“Her debut film never took off, but her family was in touch with me because I groomed her to be an actress. Her family treated me as their well-wisher and I respected it. I never tried to take advantage of her at any point. I still can’t believe why she would accuse of harassment,” Kalanjiyam told IANS.
“I was working with her in my upcoming Tamil film Oor Suttri Puranam. She already shot some portion of the film and has given me dates in May as well. If she really had a problem with me, why would she even bother to work with me,” he added.
He says he wants to handle this matter legally.
“She has defamed my name with baseless allegations. If she really says I harassed her, then I would like to handle the matter in court. I have also filed a complaint in her name. I will only see her in court now,” said Kalanjiyam.
Meanwhile, Anjali is to start shooting for the untitled Telugu remake of Bol Bachchan from Wednesday in Bangalore. She also recently completed shooting for upcoming Telugu action-drama Balupu.
