As maverick director Bala recently moved to Poes Garden midst elite neighbors – Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa and Superstar Rajnikanth, certain sections from the society vented out their surprises in concern of his move.
Quite contradictory to his own statements, many wondered why Bala who had recently gone on record to have mentioned the rich people don’t interest him chose such a posh colony to satisfy his needs.
However, the reactions to his ironic stand have not gone down well with Mr. Gautham Menon, who chose his online address to respond to the public in open. Adding fuel to the the director’s agitation was the fact that a leading newspaper daily, quoted Gautham Menon for earning 4 corers for his talent and Bala at 5 crores. Moreover it also referred to Mani Ratnam’s as “a director who adapts from mythology; repeats actors; works on own productions having a social theme usually!”
A furious Gautham Menon took to his micro blogging address to respond ”Wow my filmmaking skills are worth 4 crores is it? My friends from engineering will be jealous and some happy. Pegged market value for Mani sir? Is that even done? I mean, these guys can write anything for the public to read? is that even allowed? Who are your sources? Do you people have any idea? Who gives you the right to print such stuff? Some days ago you guys criticised national award winning director Bala sir about his buying a house in Poes garden. So? If Bala sir talks about making films on the poor and the downtrodden, he s shouldn’t live in a decent place is it and that too after so many years of struggle and great filmmaking? Who gives you the right to get personal with any one of us? We don’t want any response from anybody. Just leave us alone. Our films ran for hundred days when their columns weren’t even thought of.”
Having said that the media has its own share of questions, Mr Gautham Menon wasn’t Neethane En Ponvasantham one of the most heavily advertised, media oriented releases of recent times?
