AR. Murugadoss, the diminutive director who has turned producer in recent times, is entering a big league of film-makers in terms of the fee he gets paid to direct his films.
Even as his second home production Vathikuchi is gearing up to hit the screens all over the State tomorrow, the director has another reason to feel happy about as he has just concluded a Rs.20-crore deal to direct his next Tamil film.
AR Murugadoss started his career with Ajith’s Dheena and continued to deliver super-duper hits with Vijaykanth’s Ramana and Surya’s Ghajini. It was the Surya-starrer which made him famous all over the country and elsewhere when he remade it in Hindi with the same title starring Aamir Khan in the lead. AR Murugadoss’ market value skyrocketed with the colossal hit of the Aamir Khan–Asin starrer.
Though he slipped with the Surya–Shruti Hassan starrer 7am Arivu, AR Murugadoss bounced back into reckoning with last year’s Thuppaki which had Vijay and Kajal Agarwal in the lead. It is said that he was paid Rs.11 crore for directing this film. He is now busy with the making of Pistol, the Hindi remake of Thuppaki. After completing Pistol, AR Murugadoss is likely to make another film in Tamil with Vijay in the lead.
To be produced by London Karuna who had earlier agreed to produce the Rajnikanth-starrer Enthiran: The Robot before backing out of it, the film is likely to fetch AR Murugadoss Rs.20 crores as his fee. This is a new record as far as remuneration for Tamil film directors are concerned. The film’s title, heroine and other cast members would be decided later, it is informed.
