The first glimpse of Vikramditya Motwane‘s much talked ‘Lootera‘ unfolded yesterday at the South Mumbai’s iconic Liberty Cinema.
The film’s lead cast – Ranveer Singh dressed in navy blue suit and Sonaskhi Sinha in gorgeous cream saree – took the media and audience back to the retro age.
Liberty was selected, as its decor is classical and old-world, which is representative of the zone and mood of ‘Lootera’.
The trailer of ‘Lootera‘ is captivating with its soft background music, serene setting and impressive performance by Ranveer and Sonakshi.
The actors presented a small skit to give an insight about the love story of ‘Lootera’. The film’s director along with producer Ekta Kapoor had also graced for the first look launch, followed by press meet.
Bannered under Balaji and Phantom, ‘Lootera’ releases worldwide on July 5.
Sonakshi, Ranveer starrer Lootera begins with Liberty theatre
The Lootera team went the single screen way to launch the first look of the film at Liberty theatre in Marine Lines. A huge crowd gathered outside the cinema hall to catch a glimpse of the filmstars. Lead couple Sonakshi Sinha and Ranveer Singh made their entry in an Impala, a vintage car. Looking very much in character, Sonakshi Sinha was dressed in her signature Lootera style – saree and a big bindi – while Ranveer still sported the moustache look straight from Sanjay Leela Bhansali‘s Ram Leela.
In the film, Sonakshi Sinha dons a non-glamorous role in saris, without any hint of desi flavour in it. When asked who her inspiration for the yesteryear look was, Sonakshi quipped, “I would say Madhubalaji and Waheeda Rehmanji.”
Lootera is said to be a period drama set in the 1950s and shot mostly in Kolkata. Ranveer confessed feeling frustrated with his role, once the shooting had begun in full swing. He said, “Initially, I felt very frustrated with the role. I asked Vikram why he had cast me when I am just not suiting the character. But after a lot of workshops, thanks to Vikram I have done something people would not have expected from me.”
Making way to the stage, Ranveer and Sonakshi gave a testament of their sizzling onscreen chemistry.
Unveiling of the poster was followed by an emotional video of the cast and crew of Lootera.
A short video was telecast which underlined the glitches that the cast faced while making the film. From the weather conditions ruining the sets to Ranveer’s injuries delaying the shoot were the many reasons behind the postponement of its release. The trailer did talk about a budding love story but left enough space for imagination too. Producers Ekta Kapoor and Anurag Kashyap, director Vikramaditya Motwane, Balaji CEO – Tanuj Garg and Poonam Sinha were present at the launch event along with the cast.
