Top Telugu actress-producer Lakshmi Manchu, daughter of versatile artiste Mohan Babu, is reportedly all set to call it quits to film industry very soon.
Yes, the lady Manchu, who has carved out a niche for herself, is planning to say bid adieu to Tollywood as she wants to leave to US to spend time with her husband Anand. Boosting the news, the buzz is that Lakshmi has not signed any film yet after ‘Gundello Godari‘.
Lakshmi herself confessed it. She said, “I never wanted to stay away from my hubby Anand who stays in US. After our marriage, I had planned to do Lakshmi Talk Show for just two months and later wanted to off to US. But it ran well opened to great response followed by films, and that two months turned into two-and-a-half-years. Now, I’d like to go to US and want to live life happily with my husband. That’s the reason I haven’t signed any film after ‘Gundello Godari‘.”
Though she hasn’t openly confirmed that she is quitting films, many say that her latest bold statements on production and film industry are confirming this news.
Laksmi openly lamented at film industry by saying, “It is better to bet on horses rather than producing movies.” She opined after battling all odds to release her film ‘Gundello Godari‘. She may not completely quit but a huge gap is expected from her. However, official confirmation is yet to come.
Why not in India, Why only USA?
Lakshmi Manchu has been reveling in happiness with Gundello Godari. She shared her views to Sakshi daily and here are the highlights for those who cannot read Telugu.
As I performed the role of a Godavari girl, I focused on the slang of the region. Usually, many in my unit are from Godavari districts. I strictly warned them to speak to me in their native slang- so that I can learn and imitate them. First I learned some bad words in Godavari slang. Later, I learned the rest automatically. At a point, I got doubt on myself during dubbing and wanted to go for dubbing artiste. But the crew didn’t agree.
I never spoke this much of Telugu in any film or off the screen. It has been 2 and half years I came here. I used to speak Tamil throughout my childhood when I was in Chennai. Later I moved to US where there is no scope to speak Telugu. Even I never inclined much to speak. Though I did my intermediate in Hyderabad, my surroundings and people were Urdu and English speaking.
I love to live myself, in my own world with my own ambitions. Had I not been to USA I would have spent time as housewife worrying for my husband not getting me ornaments or other things. I moved to USA to pursue my interest in acting. I did my course in Beverly Hills Play House. I spent restless time there but with lot of happiness. People used to ask me, “Why do you work so restless”. I used to answer them, “There will be ample time after death to take rest”.
Why not in India, Why only USA?
There is no encouragement for women in India. Moreover, I am a daughter of a celebrity. Industry or media never values a celebrity daughter as they value a celeb’s son. In India, I always live for others, but in US I live for myself.
Atrocities on women
I am upset with Delhi rape episode. And there are many rapes happening as sequel to it. The society looks down women since birth. Even the parents look down. They can’t give Rs 1000 note to daughter to enjoy and come. But they give to sons. This freedom and bondage difference between sons and daughters is the primary root cause for all mishaps.
Kunti gave birth to pandavas with five men. Droupadi married those 5 pandavas. This example is enough to say how freedom was given to women those days unlike these days.
I never speak for controversy. I speak what I feel is right. I don’t worry if you consider it true or false. And there was a talk about my sex-talk little while ago. Sex is no crime. People in India look at sex as something ‘dark’ but they keep begetting children. That’s why we are standing second in world as most populous nation. Even in films, violence is being accepted but showing intimacy between a man and woman is considered to be bad.
More frank than Dad
Dad always says that my frankness worries him. He says, “I lost many things due to frankness. You don’t do that mistake”. But I inherited that from him without any effort.
Mine is not a love marriage. Anand loved me and talked to my dad. Dad agreed for marriage. He was my good friend before that. I said that I will be back to him after Lakshmi Talk Show. But it has been 2 and half years. I didn’t sign any film after ‘Gundello Godari‘. My plan is to go back to him.
