After all the uncertainty, controversy and intrigue, Kamal Hassan‘s ‘Vishwaroopam’ hit theatres across Tamil Nadu on Thursday.
The reception was rapturous and the film opened to packed houses. There were celebrations by overjoyed fans. Elated fans danced to drum beats and burst crackers as they thronged cinema theatres since early morning.
Theatre owners were also happy with the response as fans streamed in to watch ‘Viswaroopam’.
In the evening, Kamal Hassan called for a press meet and thanked fans for their overwhelming support. “I don’t know how am going to pay this back,” he said.
It may be noted that the film, was originally scheduled to release ahead of Pongal festival but had to be put off after the actor-director’s plan to release it on DTH platform ran into rough weather.
It was subsequently put off to January 25 before objection raised by Muslim groups with regard to some scenes saw the government clamp a ban. Later, after negotiations the film was cleared for release Thursday (February 7).
It may be noted that the Hindi and Telugu versions were released on January 25.
