It would have been heart-wrenching for any movie buff to see Kamal Hassan address the press today at his Alwarpet office where he said that it could be the last press meet there as he may have to relinquish his properties to pay off the creditors.
He revealed that his properties have been pledged to make Visharoopam and if the film does not hit the screens today, they would be taken over by the creditors.
The Ulaga Nayagan Kamal Hassan brought tears to our eyes when he said that he want to settle down in a state in India which is secular or overseas.
It is indeed a sad moment for Tamil cinema to see a great and talented star like Kamal Hassan being pushed to such a situation.
Meanwhile, the appeal on the lifting of the ban is being heard at the Madras High Court now. Let’s hope that justice prevails and Kamal Hassan emerges successful.
Vishwaroopam: Justice Delayed
The Division Bench heard the Vishwaroopam issue and held that the final verdict on this issue will be delivered on February 6th. Reports say that the Division Bench set aside Justice Venkatraman’s order lifting the ban on Vishwaroopam and ordered Kamal Hassan to file a counter on or before Monday, February 4th, 2013.
The Ulaga Nayagan, who has directed and played the lead role in Vishwaroopam, in the meantime, has agreed to delete the scenes that the Muslims consider to be offensive.
With the Division Bench’s order, the film stands banned in Tamil Nadu until the final verdict in February 6th.
Vijay Mallya Appreciates Kamal Hassan’s Vishwaroopam
Liquor baron and industrialist Vijay Mallya has appreciated Kamal Hassan’s Vishwaroopam. Tweeting about this film, Vijay Mallya said that he loved the film so much that he feels like giving his 26 per cent share in the United Breweries to Kamal Hassan for free.
It is sad to note that a film receiving such a huge compliment from one of India’s top ranking businessman is banned in Tamil Nadu, unfortunately, a state where Kamal Hassan belongs!
Support Galore for Kamal Hassan!
With the Madras High Court setting aside the order of the single Judge lifting the ban on Vishwaroopam, support for Kamal Haasan within and outside the film fraternity is increasing by every minute.
Noted stars such as Siva Kumar, Karthi, Simbu, Kushbhu, Sathyaraj, Aravind Samy, Prasanna, Sneha, lyricist Vairamuthu, and others have been camping at Kamal Hassan‘s office in Chennai to show their support for him.
While the film industry is showing their unity in this issue, Kamal Hassan‘s fans are gearing up to collect money to cover up the losses incurred by him. The social networking sites are full of such support with some fans sending pics of their cheques and demand drafts drawn in favour of the legendary actor in order to urge others to follow suit.
Director Ameer’s request to Kamal Hassan
Ameer has released a press statement asking Kamal Hassan to reconsider his decision to leave Tamil Nadu and settle elsewhere. The actor-filmmaker also appealed to the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalitha to interfere in this matter to solve it amicably.
Reacting to Kamal Hassan‘s speech at the press conference this morning at his Alwarpet office, Ameer had issued this press statement urging Kamal Hassan not to take any hasty decision as many people, including himself still consider TN as a secular state.
Stating that there is a possibility of some untoward incidents happening due to this issue, Ameer warned that if such a thing happens then it would remain etched out in our memories for the rest of our lives.
Ameer added that Hindus and Muslim should show their solidarity and prove that united they stand.
