Selecting the top 10 actresses of 2012 has been a difficult but exciting exercise. From veteran actresses like Sridevi to newbies like Sonakshi Sinha and Parineeti Chopra, Bollywood saw diversity of all sorts and genre.
Year 2012 witnessed a real empowerment in Indian cinema for women. While path-breaking movies such as ‘Kahaani‘, ‘Heroine‘ and ‘English Vinglish‘ focused on women as such, male-centric films such as ‘Gangs of Wasseypur‘ and ‘Ishaqzaade‘ broke the stereotype and portrayed women, who wield guns and seek revenge.

10. Sonakshi Sinha
Though all her films in 2012 were box-office hits, Sonakshi Sinha still has a long way to go. She was seen as the leading lady in ‘Rowdy Rathore‘ and ‘Son of Sardaar‘.
9. Bipasha Basu
This bong beauty is placed in the list for appearing in ‘Jodi Breakers‘ and multi-starrer ‘Players‘.
8. Katrina Kaif
Year 2012 saw Katrina Kaif in a new avatar of an ISI agent in action thriller ‘Ek Tha Tiger‘. This ‘Chikni Chameli‘ later joined the league of quintessential Yash Chopra heroines with one of the biggest releases of the year – ‘Jab Tak Hai Jaan‘.
7. Deepika Padukone
With one release in 2012, Deepika Padukone still seems to be high on ‘Cocktail‘, and we let her be as she was ecstatic in the film.
6. Parineeti Chopra
Parineeti Chopra gave a stellar performance in ‘Ishaqzaade‘. Just two-film old in the industry, junior PC has carved her niche as the most promising actress of her generation.
5. Kalki Koechlin
From ‘Dev D to ‘Shanghai‘, Kalki Koechlin has now become a well-known name in tinsel town. Her performance in ‘Shanghai‘ was highly appreciable. She also appeared in a cameo in ‘Trishna‘.
4. Kareena Kapoor
The “Begum” of Bollywood was excellent, as an actress suffering from bipolar disorder, in ‘Heroine‘ and perhaps she was the only aspect that made the film bearable. Moreover, for her terrific performance in recently released ‘Talaash‘, Mrs. Khan deserves to be in the top-half of the list.
3. Priyanka Chopra
Priyanka Chopra couldn’t have longed for a more challenging role in her already skyrocketing career. She essayed an autistic girl immaculately in ‘Barfi‘. She also starred in ‘Agneepath‘ and ‘Teri Meri Kahaani‘.
2. Sridevi
Not that Bollywood is unfamiliar to such astonishing comebacks, but her impact, grace and flawless performance even after a sabbatical of 15-long-years is par excellence. Sridevi is a must-watch in ‘English Vinglish‘.
1. Vidya Balan
Vidya Balan is still the undisputed queen of Bollywood. While other actresses juggle multiple releases in a year, Vidya Balan makes her mark with only one. Mrs. Bagchi is worth all the applause that comes her way for ‘Kahaani‘ and here we give her one.
