Jacqueline Fernandez Talks About ‘Race 2’ Co-Stars
What’s your look in Race 2?
I think, it’s a blend of action and glamour.
It’s been reported that, your look was inspired by Angelina Jolie in Salt. Is that true?
Not much actually. When we started with the styling, we wanted to accomplish a very new look, that of very confident, modern, young and at the same time a very edgy character. We did not take it from any particular character as such. But yes, we looked at several options, checking out different graphs and finding out about the latest trends to create something different and better.
What was the brief given to you about the look?
I was told that my character was of a rich and glamorous girl with dark shades. She had to be someone who was really naive, innocent the action look natural. The fencing scenes required me to sit and stand and since I am not a gymnast it was difficult.
What is your definition of glamour?
Besides wearing glamorous clothes and makeup, what is more important is attitude, and the way you carry yourself. Your personality should enhance your looks, and make you stand out from among the rest.
Do you feel it’s important to look glamorous off-screen as well?
(Laughs) Actually yes, because it is not enough to impress others, you need to feel good about yourself. The way you present yourself in public adds to your image. And it is not only stars, who should be looking good at all times, I feel we all owe it to ourselves to put our best foot forward.
Who was your stylist?
My look was styled by Anaita Shroff.
Besides looking glamorous, will you also be doing action sequences?
My character had to do fencing, archery and I trained rigorously under Peter Hein.
Whom do you admire the most?
Sonam Kapoor is interesting and has a fantastic personality, she does not stereotype herself into a particular mold. She is very straightforward and a professional. She has the most amazing sense of style and manages to look beautiful even on a bad day. Among male actors, I find Saif (Ali Khan) very stylish and glamorous. The way he carries himself is commendable. We generally talk about watches, shoes, designers and he is very knowledgeable about style and fashion.
What’s your mantra to stay glamorous?
My style mantra is all about being you. It’s quite easy to follow a trend that works at the moment, and it’s kind of difficult to be yourself in middle of all that. It’s really important to be true to yourself. People may or may not like it, but that shouldn’t affect you at all. And, this is something I always try to live by. It’s not really about impressing others. It is about loving yourself and being confident in what you are.
What has been your favorite role till date that you also think is glamorous?
I think it’s the role that I played in Aladdin, because it was based on fantasy. My character as Jasmine had many glamorous moments in it.
