It can’t get bigger than this. Chennai will have its share in the London Olympics that would kick off on 27 July. At the mega inaugural function, being directed by Slumdog Millionaire-fame Danny Boyle, there would be music and dance with ‘desi’ flavour.
Our very own ‘Mozart of Madras’ AR Rahman will be composing a song for the inauguration besides maestro Ilayaraja’s hit number from his 1981 film Ram Lakshman has been selected to be played on the occasion.
Also, there are some city-based cultural groups being invited to perform at the Olympic Park during the games in London.
Confirming the news, Rahman said, ‘it’s one of the songs for the opening ceremony. It’s a secret’ AR Rahman has made a name for himself in Hollywood working with Danny Boyle in Slumdog Millionaire that won AR Rahman two Oscars including Best Original Score and Best Song (Jai Ho).
AR Rahman revealed that he would be composing a part of the score Boyle is using in the 2012 summer Olympics. ‘I am already doing a track for him for the Olympics’.
Ilayaraja’s song Naanthaan Ungappanda from Kamal Hassan starrer Ram Lakshman sung by SP Balasubrahmanyam will feature in the playlist of London 2012 Olympics.
