As it would happen, Sundar C’s return to directing films has had a great beginning to it. Kalakalappu, his latest film as director, released yesterday all over the State in many centres and had no competition as no other films released on the same day. It rarely happens in Kollywood that no Tamil film or a single film releases on any given Friday.
Kalakalappu, which was earlier titled as Masala Cafe, stars Vimal, ‘Mirchi’ Shiva, Anjali, Oviya and Santhanam in lead roles and is billed as a full-length comedy film on the lines of the director’s earlier film Ullathai Allithaa. The film’s title comes with a rider that the film would be a ‘Jolly ride befitting the summer’.
Thanks to the oomph and glamour-filled costumes and dancing by the film’s heroines Anjali and Oviya which was amply revealed in its promos as well as the advertisements, the film had already become a ‘hot topic’. Anjali, who has built up a reputation around herself as an actress of substance, plays a sanitary inspector in the film and says it’s a ‘fun-film’ intended basically to lighten-up the hearts of the audiences.
The film has opened to very good response at all the centres yesterday, reports say. The film’s good show might eat into the theatrical collections of Udyhayanidhi Stalin–Hansika Motwani starrer Oru Kal Oru Kannadi which hit the screens a few weeks back. Sundar C’s film has been released in as many as 255 halls across the State.’
