Vijayalakshmi’s cup of joy appears to be over-flowing at this very moment. The younger daughter of national award-winning director Agathiyan, Vijayalakshmi had been lying low for the past couple of years with not many hit films to her credit. In fact, she hasn’t had a single release for close to two years now.
She made a promising debut in film-maker Venkat Prabhu’s debut directorial venture Chennai 600 028 which found a receptive audience and turned out to be a successful film. She then did films like director Mysskin’s Anjathay and the Jai-starrer Adhae Neram Adhae Idam. Though Anjathay was also a hit film, not many offers came pouring in her way.
She was lucky enough to act opposite superstar Rajinikanth for a few days for the now-abandoned Sultan: The Warrior. Had the film released, Vijayalakshmi’s stakes in the industry would have gone up by several notches. She could only blame her ill-luck which resulted in a Rajnikanth film being ‘abandoned’. However, she feels she is right on tract one now that she has finally got the role the one she always wanted to play in a film.
Vijayalakshmi is currently playing the female lead in director Amudhan’s Rendavathu Padam. Readers might be able to recall that Amudhan debuted as director with the satirical Tamizh Padam more than a couple of years. The film made fun of film-making in general and the styles and mannerisms of many heroes in particular. Fittingly enough, Amudhan has named his second film as Rendavathu Padam.
“I’m playing a role in the film about which I had always dreamt of doing. The film is into its second schedule and I’m having a jolly good time as it is a fun-filled film. My co stars Vimal, Arvind Aakash and Richard and the entire unit are very nice to work with; they make me laugh all the time in the sets with their pranks and funny acts,” says the actress, who also plays the slain Sandalwood Veerappan’s wife in Vana Yudhdham.
Rendavathu Padam is produced by Screen Crafts Entertainment and has music is by Kannan. Vijay Ulaganathan takes care of cinematography. After shooting in places like Chennai and Puducherry, the crew might leave for Thailand and Malaysia. The film might hit the screens during the middle of this year..
