Sunaina is pretty-looking, has an hour-glass figure and has oodles of acting potential. Yet, strangely enough, the Nagpur-born Sunaina Harish Yella a.k.a. Sunaina hasn’t been spotted so often on Tamil screen as one would love to see. The girl with a flooring smile, though, has been awaiting not one but a couple of her films in Kathirvel and Tiruthani opposite Ajmal and Bharath respectively.
Sunaina stole many a heart with her stunning debut in Kadhalil Vizhundhaen opposite Nakul a couple of years back. The film, which had Nakul playing a fanatic lover, was her first hit. She followed it up with Maasilamani against the same hero which was also a moderate hit.
Sunaina was then seen in a deglamourized role in last year’s Vamsam directed by Pandiraj (of Pasanga fame). She played a village belle in the film, which was the debut film of Kalignar’s grandson Arulnidhi as hero in Tamil films. After Vamsam, Sunaina was flooded with many offers to play the village belle’s roles; invariably, all those roles wanted her to put on the paavadai-dhavani costume.
“I didn’t want to get stereotyped or get typecast in a particular role and therefore I had to spurn many offers of village girl’s roles. Though my paavadai-dhavani avatar in Vamsam was appreciated by critics, many producers and directors asked me to don the same costume and play the same role in their films. I purposely stayed away from films for a few months and have come back now.
“My wait paid off finally as I got to play Vishal’s heroine in his upcoming film Samaran which also has Trisha as the other heroine. I have also signed up Rasu Mathuraan’s next film; thankfully, both the films have urban characters and it’s a huge relief. My role in Samaran is quite a significant one,” adds Sunaina.
