Awards were given away to achievers from many fields at a recent function held in the city by the English magazine ‘Ritz’ at a olourful function. The awards, named ‘Icon 2011’, were given to outstanding achievers in the field of entertainment and other sectors.
‘Ritz’ is a popular English magazine which carries the pulse of the Kolywood film industry and offers fresh news. A.LVijay won the award for ‘best director’ for his amazing work in films like Madarasapattinam and Deiva thirumagal. David Deivasagayam presented the award to Vijay on behalf of the team of ‘Ritz’.
Veteran director K. Balachander was awarded the ‘Evergreen Icon’ award. He was presented the award by a group of his former assistant directors and present-day directors in Vasanth, Charan, Thamira and actress Suhasini, who has starred in many of the veteran’s films including the unforgettable Sindhu Bhairavi.
After accepting the award, Vijay said that many people told him that they were hugely upset at Madarasapattinam not getting any national award. “As far as I’m concerned, the film was appreciated as a ‘very good film’ by K. Balachander, which is more valuable than any award(s). The fat that I’ve been honoured in the same stage in which K. Balahander had been honoured makes the award even more memorable,” he said.
