Though many feel that Anjali should have been given the national award for ‘best actress’ for her portrayal of a salesgirl’s life in Vasanthabalan’s ‘Angaadi Theru’, actress Anjali isn’t having any regrets. The actress, in fact, is quite happy to have been adjudged the ‘best actress’ by the popular ‘Filmfare’ magazine. She was presented the ‘Black Lady’ award a few weeks back.
She now has a couple of films getting ready for release. One of them would be director-actor Kalanjiyam’s ‘Karungaali’ in which Anjali shares screen space with Sunita Verma and another heroine. In ‘Thambi Vettothi Sundaram’ (TVS), though, she plays the solo heroine opposite Karan. This is the first time that Anjali gets to be paired opposite Karan.
Speaking about her role in the film, Anjali said “I liked the script very much the moment director Vadivudaiyan narrated it to me. I play the character of Lourdhu Mary in the film, which is not a fictional character but that of a woman who still lives in Southern Tamilnadu. It was thrilling to play the real-life character of a woman who has pulled off something in life.
“In fact, I wanted to meet Mary personally but my director didn’t allow me to do so for some reasons. He taught me the mannerisms and the speech slang of Mary and I just brought on-screen what was told to me. I put in extra effort to make the character lookrealistic. I realized how difficult it is to play a real-life character. I have spoken Tamil mixed with Malayalam, the way it is spoken in some localities in the State. I hope it comes off well and is liked by the audience,” concludes Anjali.
