It’s official now: after Bollywood’s Prachi Desai walked out of her debut film in Tamil which was to be the Arun Vijay-starrer ‘Thadaiyara Thakka’ (TT), slim and svelte Mamta Mohandas has since replaced Prachi. Unfortunately, the talented Mamta Mohandas hasn’t been seen much in Tamil films. Her last film in Tamil was last year’s ‘Guru Enn Aalu’ opposite Madhavan.
Ironically, it now turns out that Mamta was among the list of heroines the producers wanted to approach prior to zooming in on Prachi. For some reason, though, she couldn’t be signed up as some ‘source’ close to Mamta Mohandas brought the feedback to the producers that she was not ‘too keen’ to sign up any Tamil film.
After sending a legal notice to Prachi for ‘wasting’ the call-sheet dates and disturbing the shooting schedule, Arun Vijay launched a hunt for heroine. Mamta was again considered and when she contacted, she said she was in Bangalore. She liked the script narrated to her by Magizh Thirumeni and immediately agreed to play the female lead in ‘TT’.
Mamta Mohandas, a trained playback singer, is also one of the very few actresses who can speak fluently in Tamil. She had been very busy with her Malayalam projects which had kept her away from Kollywood for a long time. Looking ever-so-slim, the pretty Mamta Mohandas iseasily an asset for any film-maker. Says Arun Vijay: “We are very happy to have her on-board and I’m sure our on- screen chemistry would be much talked out once the film releases!”
