Popular comedian-turned-politician S.Ve. Shekar has announced that he would soon be making a sequl to his 1982 hit ‘Manal Kayiru‘ with his son Ashwin playing the lead role. Shekhar, who joined Amma’s AIADMK a few years back before falling out with her prior to the recently concluded elections, hasn’t been acting in many films for the past few years.
‘Manal Kayiru‘ was directed by Visu and turned out to be a super-duper hit. The film, made in typical Visu style, had Santhi Krishna as Shekar‘s heroine in it. In fact, the success of the film somehow gave the status of a ‘star director’ to Visu who went on to make many more emotional pot-boilers including the national award-winning film titled ‘Samsaaram Adhu Minsaaram’.
Visu’s younger brother Kishmu (who is n more now) and veteran Manorama had played important roles in the original. Ashwin, who would soon by tying the nuptial knot with Sruthi, debuted as hero in Tamil films more than an year ago but has found few takers since then. Speaking to reporters, Shekhar said that Ashwin‘s second film ‘Ninaivil Nindraai’ would soon be hitting the screens.
The film is based on the ‘mercy killing’ concept and has been appreciated by the Censors who watched it recently, he revealed. “I would soon be making the sequel to Manal Kayiru, my hit film in the early eighties. Ashwin would be playing the lead role,” he said and added that the shooting would start soon.
