Director Leena Manimegalai had made a film with the Ealam genocide as its backdrop. The film was sent to the censor board a few months ago where the board even refused to offer a certificate and subsequently did not allow the film to release.
Leena Manimegalai took the film to the tribunal where they witnessed the film and offered a green signal with no cuts. When the regional censor board has refused to grant permission to release the film citing remarks against Sri Lanka, the Tribunal has issued no cuts.
Sengadal is about the Tamil Eelam genocide, Tamil fishermen and the maze of issues, controversies and politics between groups that fought for the liberation of Tamils in Eelam. With a go ahead from the Tribunal, Sengadal is most likely to release soon.
