Surya does not sign on the dotted lines of debutant directors. Even Karthi has held this policy but the only change was in Saguni. But when it comes to big directors, Surya is ready to concede to a lot of requests made by the directors.
Directors like A.R Murugadoss can hold him on a year long shoot in a film like “7am Arivu”. He wouldn’t mind. Similarly, he can also ask directors who have subsequently signed him for the future to wait till he completes a film.
Such is his star power and that is what happened with “Maatraan”. He asked K.V Anand to wait till he finished “7am Arivu”. After “7am Arivu”, when K.V Anand requested him to take about three quarters of a year for the shoot of “Maatraan”, Surya obliged and asked Directors Hari and Vetrimaran to wait till he completed “Maatraan”. While Hari will make a quickie anytime, Vetrimaran will take longer than normal to complete a film.
