We once knew her as the inevitable part of Malayalam soft porn movies. After creating a tsunami effect in Mollywood, she gently walked into Kollywood to play comedy and comical roles.
Now, Shakeela has taken the avatar of a singer, for a movie titled ‘Shanmugipuram’, directed by Chezhiyan. And what more, she will also dance for the same song on the screen.
Shakeela recently recorded the song, composed by Dhakshi, with two other singers Amritha and Saloni. “The output is good I believe. Everyone appreciated me,” she says with a smile.
The actress adds: “I was little hesitant when the director wanted me to sing. But thanks to the support from him and Dhakshi, I managed to sing it. I am eagerly looking forward for the response from the audience.”
Shakeela croons a song for ‘Shanmugipuram’!
The mere mention of the name ‘Shakeela’ is enough to stimulate the ‘basic instincts’ in many youths (and old men, too) in Tamil Nadu and Kerala. Shakeela, the soft-porn actress from Kerala, was so popular at one time that her popularity ever over-shadowed the likes of established Malayalam stars such as Mammootty and Mohanlal.
Shakeela ‘revealed’ an unknown trait in her personality by crooning a full song for the upcoming film ‘Shanmugipuram’, which is produced by Sathya Sai Creations. The film, which is directed by R.N. Chezhian, has Manoj playing the lead role opposite Antra and Shadhika.
Shakeela sang the song Sodakku podu Sadakku podu Sornakka… along with two other singers Amirtha and Saloni. The song was recorded at AVM ‘G’ theatre in the city. The song has been penned by Vijaykrishna and Tashi has scored the music. The shooting of the film is likely to commence by the month-end. Aadhi takes care of the cinematography while Gautham pens the story.
The quintessential ‘item’ girl would also be dancing for a song sequence besides appearing in a comic character. “I have attempted quality comedy in the film and hope to continue in the same vein in future. I have also attempted to sing a song in the film; I hope it doesn’t end up irritating the audience. I’m happy to have sung in the music of Tashi, who won an award in his very first Malayalam film,” says Shakeela.
