Popular south Indian film star Sujatha passed away on Wednesday, April 6 morning at her residence here. in Chennai. The 58-year-old actress was reportedly suffering from severe health problems over the past few months. The exact cause of death is not immediately known.
Sujatha was born in Sri Lanka on December 10, 1952 and grew up in Kerala. She acted in more than 300 films including Telugu, Tamil, Malayalam and Hindi languages for more than 4 decades. She started her film career at the age of 14 through a Malayalam film ‘Tabaswini‘ and later K Balachander introduced her to Kollywood through ‘Aval Oru Thodar Kathai‘ in 1974. The same film was remade in Telugu as ‘Antuleni Katha‘ featuring Jayapradha as lead actress.
She won the hearts of Kannada audience with her inspiring performance in ‘Tutta Mutta‘. In ‘Nanna Devaru‘, she played the lead role opposite Anant Nag. During the later years, she acted in mother’s roles. Among her maternal roles, the best remembered are as Ramesh Aravind‘s mother in ‘Tutta Mutta‘ and Ravichandran‘s mother in ‘Neelakantha‘.
She has starred with top actors in Tamil cinema including Kamal Hassan and has also done several movies in Malayalam, Telugu and Hindi. The veteran actress made her debut in Hindi with ‘Do Kaliyaan‘ in 1968.
Besides with Kamal Haasan, she acted with almost all top heroes of yesteryear like Sr NTR, ANR, Sobhan Babu, Krishna, Murali Mohan, Mohan Babu, Krishnam Raju, Chiranjeevi, Rajanikanth, Kamal Haasan and the like.
Because of health reasons, Sujatha had stopped taking up acting offers for a few years now.

Senior Tamil Actress Sujatha Died:
Yesteryears actress Sujatha who is well known in Telugu, Tamil and Malayalam film industries died in Chennai this morning. She has been suffering with serious illness over a period of time and has breathed her last today.
Sujatha acted in films like Gorintaku, Guppedu Manasu, Edantastula meda etc. as a heroine. She was paired up with the then superstars of Telugu cinema at that time. Later she switched to character roles and has delivered superb performances in films like Chanti, Pelli and Sri Ramadasu.
She was a busy actress in Tamil and Malayalam too. Sujatha paired up with Rajinikanth in few films and later acted as his mother in Baba. She has also acted along with all the top heroes of seventies to nineties in various roles. Her death will be a great loss to Southern film industry.
Sujatha – a Legend Lost
From her debut film ‘Aval Oru Thodarkathai’ till her last movie ‘Varalaru’, Sujatha had exhibited her versatility. The actress has been an inspirer of her self. The actress passed away yesterday (April 6) due to cardiac arrest.
The actress had played a very substantial role in the films of K. Balachandar that were based on ‘Feminism’. She shot to a bigger fame with the film ‘Avargal’, in which she shared screen space with the living legends – Superstar Rajnikanth and Padmashree Kamal Haasan.
The veteran actress performed to the core of her excellent ability as Rajnikanth’s mother in ‘Baba’, which is a noteworthy factor.
Aged 58, the actress is survived by her husband Jayakar, son Sajid and daughter Divya.
