The picture-perfect Shriya Saran is one of those rare combinations of beauty and the brains. The English Literature graduate, who regularly meditates and performs yoga on a daily basis, won an award recently which had largely gone unnoticed, unfortunately. The award was from Tollywood for her ‘contribution to Telugu cinema’.
Career-wise, she appears a bit down and out in Tamil where her last film ‘Chikku Bukku’ didn’t do well and she presently has a lone film in ‘Rowthiram’ opposite Jiiva. Shriya, however, has some plum projects in ‘Midnight Children’ with noted film-maker Deepa Mehta and the Malayalam film ‘Casanova’ opposite megastar Mohanlal.
Shriya rubbishes rumours that she is having an ‘affair’ with RaNa, the popular Telugu star. “The non-existing affair was nothing but a creation of the media. In fact, we have been family friends for the past many years and I have known right from his school days. We are good friends and are not at all in love with each other,” the sexy Shriya clears the air.
The socially-conscious actress runs a spa in Mumbai employing visually-challenged girls. Narrating how it struck her to employ them, Shriya says it was due to a freak incident which took place more than a decade back. It turns out that she had taken a wrong bus while in college and landed up at a school for the blind.
One of the boys, who was batting using a ball which makes sound, wondered how could see (with both her eyes functioning) misread the bus number while he (with no eyes) could hit the ball nicely by hearing the sound. “That was literally an eye-opener for me,” giggles Shriya.
