Actor Mohan reigned as a leading romantic hero for close to a decade throughout the eighties and had his own audience and fans. To his credit, it should be said in favour of him that he managed to hold his own against the giants like Rajnikanth, Kamal Haasan and Vijaykanth. The whole world knew that ‘Maestro’ Ilaiyaraja played a great part in Mohan’s longevity as a hero.
As luck would have it, most of Mohan’s songs, set to music by Ilaiyaraja and sung by SPB, became great and ever-green hits. Mohan starred opposite all the frontline heroines including Poornima Bhagyaraj, Radha, Ambika, Oorvasi, Nalini, Sasikala, Amala, Revathi and Ranjani. Invariably, Mohan played a singer in many of his films and was identified as ‘mike’ Mohan.
3-4 years back, Mohan made an unsuccessful comeback to films with a dud titled ‘Suttapazham’ opposite Subha Punja. The actor, who had playback singer S.N. Surendar (uncle of actor Vijay) dubbing for him in almost all his films, is said to be penning his autobiography.
Instead of the usual narration, Mohan is said to be planning it in a ‘question-answer’ format, much like the biography penned by Arandhai Narayanan for the legendary Sivaji Ganesan. Along with penning the book, Mohan is also making yet another making in Tamil films, sources close to him say.
Will the Maestro be there to bail him out for the umpteenth time?
