Popular Malayalam actor Mohanlal has been served a criminal defamation charge lawsuit by popular writer and script-writer of Mollywood, Sugumaran.
Mohanlal, who had been criticizing the Malayalam film industry in ‘imposing’ severe punishment on veteran actor Thilakan, was in a running verbal duel with Sugumaran, who was on the other side of the fence in this particular issue.
At a recent function, Mohanlal reportedly made some scathing attack on the attitude of Sugumaran, which hasn’t gone down well with the latter. Sugumaran has now filed a defamation suit at a Tiruchur Court saying that actor Mohanlal’s remarks were meant to ‘defame’ him and amounted to ‘character assassination’.
Sugumaran had said in his hard-hitting petition that he wondered whether Mohanlal was in the ‘right frame of mind’ when he commented about him. “The disparaging remarks have pained me a lot. Mohanlal should not only offer unconditional apology but should also pay me Rs.10 lakhs as compensation,” the petition has stated.
