The whole world knows that superstar Rajnikanth, who holds the Indian record for delivering the maximum percentage of hit films vis-a-vis the overall number of films he has starred in, has delivered an astounding hit with his latest film ‘Enthiran: The Robot’ which released worldwide on 1st October in the year just gone by.
The film, India’s first science-fiction film involving a ‘Robot’, released in Tamil, Hindi and Telugu versions and ran very well in all the languages. In fact, distributors point out the (dubbed) Telugu version of the film gave a run for its money to many original Telugu films which released around the same time in theatres in Andhra Pradesh.
Simplicity personified and humble to the core, Rajni reportedly rang up the 80-plus ‘Film News’ Anandan, widely known as the ‘living encyclopedia’ of Tamil films, to find out whether ‘Enthiran’ was still in demand in theatres or not. Rajni is said to have asked the details about what were the theatres screening the film, how did the distributors feel, how was the theatre-owners’ reaction to the film’s run, etc.
Though the film has been declared a ‘super hit’ (the production cost was Rs.180 crores and the overall collection was more than Rs.800 crores, according to unconfirmed sources) long time back, the sincerity with which Rajni enquired about the film’s run with Anandan speaks volumes about the man’s thoughts for others’ interests!
