Not many are aware that the stunning-looking Preetika, who has debuted in Tamil films as the (second) heroine in the just-released ‘Chikku Bhukku’ starring Aarya & Shriya Saran in the lead, started off her career as a film journalist before turning to acting profession.
Preetika plays the heroine to Aarya, who plays dual roles in the film, and is paired up opposite the ‘father’ Aarya who falls in love with Preetika in the script set in the ‘eighties’. Preetika, younger sibling of Bollywood beauty Amrita Rao, has this to say about her entry into Kollywood: “I was very keen to make my debut in Tamil films.
“When I got the offer to star in Chikku Bhukku, I immediately agreed to it. Manigandan, the director, was apparently impressed by my profile photographs and chose me for the role. In fact, the role was first offered to Vidya Balan. I had to step in as Vidya backtracked at the last moment.
“I feel the film has given me an ‘identity card’ to move around in Kollywood. Though I was a model and didn’t have any prior experience in acting, I completed all my sequences in single ‘takes’ without wasting the film rolls of the producer.
“At first, Tamil was totally alien to me. Manigandan & Aarya helped me a lot in picking up the pronunciation and understanding of the language, dueo to which I was able to pronounce the words properly,” says Preetika, whose first commercial endorsement was for the Cadbury’s Chocolates along with the superstar of the millennium, Amitabh Bachchan.
