Many rumours are floating in the industry as to what could have been the ‘ultimate’ budget of the upcoming Kamal Haasan-Trisha-Madhavan starrer ‘Manmadhan Ambu’, which has been produced by the hi-profile Udhayanidhi of Red Giant Movies.
The film would have cost its producer a lot as more than ninety per cent of the film was shot abroad, with most of the sequences on a luxury cruise off the European coast and in some European countries. Industry watchers say that if the fee paid to Kamal Hassan, Trisha, Madhavan & Sangeetha is taken into account, the film’s budget could easily have gone past Rs.40 crores.
Neither Kamal Haasan nor Udhayanidhi were forthcoming with a direct reply when queried about the ‘range’ of the budget of the film, which is all set to release next Friday all over the world. Initial estimates put the budget at Rs.45 crores but as the film progressed, as it happens on most occasions, the budgets reportedly overshoot its original estimate by a few crores.
At a recent chat with presspersons, Kamal Haasan gave a hint about the budget. Instead of committing anything verbally, he showed all the fingers in his right hand, meaning that the figure was ‘five’ (fifty crores). Producer Udhayanidhi is said to have sold off the distribution rights of the film to Gemini Labs.
In all probability, actor-turned-politician Vijaykanth’s ‘Virudhagiri’ might clash with Kamal Haasan’s ‘Manmadhan Ambu’ at the box-office!
