Music director Devi Sri Prasad, otherwise known as ‘DSP’ in Kollywood circles, is thrilled to bits at the opportunity of having worked with ‘Ulaganayagan’ Kamal Haasan in the star’s upcoming film ‘Manmadhan Ambu’, which also co-stars Madhavan, Trisha and Sangeetha in lead roles and has been directed by K.S. Ravikumar.
Kamal has sung a couple of numbers in ‘Manmadhan Ambu’ in DSP’s music. DSP, who is already a great fan of the actor in Kamal Haasan, has said that the film has offered him a chance to know the ‘excellent playback singer’ in Kamal Haasan.
Right from his career, Kamal had been singing songs in films, albeit rarely. His songs in ‘Nayagan’ and ‘Thevar Magan’ have almost become legendary ones, thanks also to the mesmerizing music of ‘Maestro’ Ilaiyaraaja. DSP had earlier scored the background music of Kamal Haasan’s magnum opus ‘Dasavatharam’ a couple of years ago.
At the audio launch of the film last Saturday in Singapore, DSP spoke in detail about his experience of having worked with Kamal Haasan. “This was the first time Kamal Sir was playing the lead role in a film whose music has been scored by me. I have now become a great fan of the singer in Kamal Sir.
“Prior to working in the film, I have known him as an actor par excellence and a good singer; only after working in the film and scoring music for the songs sung by Kamal that I realized that Kamal Sir is a great playback singer as well. Not many of his fans, who love him for his acting talents, are aware that his singing is equally good if not better.
“His voice is so unique…I feel that the full potential of his voice has not yet been tapped by any music director…I also feel that I have made a sincere effort to do so in ‘Manmadhan Ambu’, which is a romantic film,” concluded DSP.
