A girl student hailing from Karur District, who completed her 12th exams this April by standing first in the District, was fortunate enough to get a seat in a medical college to fulfill her ambitions to become a doctor and serve the society. Though she managed to get the seat, she couldn’t continue her studies as her mother didn’t have any financial sources to pay the fee for the academic year.
The girl was helpless and her situation was reported in a popular regional language weekly. Comedian Vivek, who came across the news item, got in touch with the magazine, found out the girl’s whereabouts and met the girl and assured her that he would take care of her medical education course till the course concluded.
A formal event was to be held at the Chennai Press Club to let the press and the public be aware of Vivek’s generosity. The Press Club, though, refused permission to host the event. The event was then shifted to the Four Frames auditorium inside the Sathyam Cinemas wherein Vivek offered to take care of the girls’ education amid a sea of college students.
