A star night is being planned in Chennai on the evening of 23rd October by the Directors’ Association headed by veteran director Bharathiraaja. Superstar Rajnikanth, Kamal Haasan and many other leading actors/actresses and technicians would be taking part in the programme in which leading actresses would be dancing on stage while playback singers would be crooning popular numbers for their fans.
It has been announced that on the eve of the star-nite, all the shooting schedules are being cancelled on 23rd October so as to enable all the actors and actresses and other technicians to take part in the event. A joint statement issued by Bharathi raja and Secretary R.K Selvamani has said that on the eve of the fortieth anniversary of the founding of the Directors’ Association, a grand musical nite would be held at the Nehru Indoor Stadium in Chennai on the 23rd of October.
Film directors from other languages would also be taking part in the event, which is being planned in a grand manner. Queries with the Association, though, revealed that more than celebrating the 40th anniversary, the event is being planned with an aim to drum up funds to enable its associate members to apply for the houses being planned by the Government for film industry folks at Paiyanoor.
Among the 2,500 member of the Association, only 65 of them have applied for houses under the above-said scheme. Many feel that at 54 kilometers, Paiyanoor is quite long from Kollywood and that the cost of housing is too high for them to get involved in it. The event, therefore, is planned to collect funds and see whether the cost of housing could be reduced to some extent.
Let’s appreciable a laudable effort by the Association!
