Ajith Kumar and Gautham Menon’s proposed project has been shelved due to the differences between the duo. Ace director has confirmed that the project has been dropped after Ajith opted Venkata Prabhu over Gautham for his silver jubilee film Mangaatha.
Earlier, there were reports that Gautham Menon would be directing Ajith Kumar’s 50th film. According to Gautham, they were in talks and were planning to kick-start the project. By the time, they start the project, Ajith went to England for his first FIA Formula 2 race there by putting the project on hold. After returning from UK, the actor went to discuss about his 50th venture with other Kollywood directors and told Gautham to wait till 2011.
Buzz up!
“If I have to wait for an actor to do my film it has to be Kamal sir or my good friend Surya. I want to work with people who have their head firm on their shoulder”, Bangalore Mirror quoted Gautham Menon as saying.
However, Ajith’s prestigious 50th film went onto floors yesterday in Chennai. On the other hand, Gautham is busy with Bollywood version of Vinnaithandi Varuvaaya and Tamil movie Nadunisi Naaygal.
Filmmaker Gowtham Menon and actor Ajith Kumar have shared great rapports back from the days of ‘Kandukondain Kandukondain’ (Gowtham was assistant director to Rajiv Menon). Gowtham Menon’s only interests have been directing ace actors – Kamal Haasan, Ajith Kumar and Suriya. Perhaps, with his dreams of working with Kamal Haasan and Suriya having been accomplished, he hasn’t joined hands with Ajith Kumar yet.
In the past couple of years, the duo had dropped whole lots of projects due to some constraints. This time, Gowtham Menon seems to have lost his patience as he openly admitted, “Ajith Kumar wanted me to wait for another year. But I really want to work with actors, who have heads firmly placed over their shoulders. If I have to wait, it would be either for Kamal Haasan or my friend Suriya…”
Soon after reading his statements, the fans of Ajith Kumar have gone irresistibly infuriated and are insisting him to seek apology.
It is a great loss that GVM and Ajith will not be working together after all. GVM just said what he felt and I think it is childish of Ajith’s fans to demand an apology when Ajith himself has been silent. Plus, did GVM really say those words? Tamil movie media is notorious for misquoting or misreporting what people said. At the same time the movie personalities too seem to come out with the standard, “I did not say that” or “I was misquoted” phrases. In this case we will have to wait and see further reactions from the two parties. Plus it is strange that such a big story was only reported by one website while the others have been silent on this. So, did this really happen?
Ajith has to really choose his scripts carefully. After Billa his two follow up films have been a disaster: Aegan and Asal. If he has another flop, the media and critics will not be so forgiving. Let’s hope Venkat Prabhu will be able to give Ajith a much needed hit to lift his spirits and that of his fans.
