India’s most proficient cinematographer-turned-filmmaker Santosh Sivan’s bilingual film Urumi, based on the assassination of Portuguese explorer Vasco Da Gama, who arrived in Kappad near Calicut in 1498, was launched at Dream Hotel in Kochi on Friday. Superstar Mammootty, the chief guest at the function, lighted the traditional lamp.
Directors Joshi, Renjith, Blessy, Siby Malayil, Kamal, Lenin Rajendran, Shaji Kailas, Lal, Viji Thampy, Renji Panikkar, producers Gokulam Gopalan, Liberty Basheer, actors Manian Pillai Raju, Indrajith, K.P.A.C. Lalitha and Kaviyoor Ponamma were present.
Starring Prithviraj and pretty Genelia in the lead, Urumi is produced by the Santosh Sivan-Prithviraj duo’s new production company August Cinema in Malayalam, Tamil and English. Santosh Sivan said that the film will be shot in Kerala and later in the forest areas of Malshej Ghat, Maharashtra.
