Two of Kalaignar Karunanidhi‘s grandsons have turned full time producers: Udhayanidhi Stalin and Dayanidhi Azhagiri. The third grandson however, decided to turn hero. Arulnidhi is now busy shooting for his debut movie in Pudhukottai. It’s been a while now since the movie was announced; we were informed that it was to be directed by Pandiraj of Pasanga fame, and had Sunaina playing the lead lady. However, until recently, the team refused to even reveal the name of the film, insisting they were yet to hit upon the right title. Finally, it is said to be titled Vamsam and is a love story set in a village.
Talking about the movie, Pandiraj reveals that the basis for his story is the unchanged essence of love. “In those days, lovers communicated via pigeons. The sender had to hope that the bird reached his lover safely and wait anxiously for a reply. Today, even though we send love notes within seconds via SMS, the anxiety has not changed. We still await a reply anxiously. My story is about that kind of love in a small village. I’ve tried to portray the lives and loves of the village folk in all honesty,” says the director.
Pandiraj is all praise for his lead players. “Arul is a very patient boy. He is willing to try new things. Whether it’s climbing a tree or jumping in a lake or walking through the fields, he has no objection. He shows a lot of potential. Suniana, if you ask me, is an undiscovered talent. She has immense acting skill and after Vamsam, no one will ever forget Malarkodi, the character she plays.”
