Donating cattle and head shaving are mainly the commitment people undertake in this temple. The crowd is more during Saturdays in the Tamil month of Purattasi (September-October). People also offer vessels and articles made of silver and gold.

The place is known as Then Tirupathi – Tirupathi of the South. Those unable to make a long journey to Tirupathy, come to this temple. The temple is located on a hill in a beautiful environment. As the tank is in front of the temple, it so appears as if the temple is on a wide land area.
General information:Thiruvannamalai is 50 Kms from Virudhunagar and 5 from Srivilliputhur. Comfortable lodges are available in Srivilliputhur. It would be easier to go to the temple from Srivilliputhur. Charges are nominal ranging from Rs. 100 to Rs. 300.
Adequate bus facilities are available from Madurai, Tirunelveli to Srivilliputhur and from there too buses are available to Thiruvanamalai. Nearest railway station is Srivilliputhur and Madurai. Airport Madurai.

History:
Thiruvannamalai, considered as Then Tirupathi is the place where the Lord himself was protecting the public in the form of a hunter, it is said. The Lord is all blessingful. It is also said that the mount is but Adisesha himself. There is also a tank at the foothill with beautiful Lotus flowers. It is also called Koneri washing of the sins of the devotees bathing in the tank.
