Reputation:
The place is known for the penance performed by King Janaka seeking Sri Rama for his son-in-law. The idols of Rama, Sita and Lakshmana are in very large in size the temple. The temple exists from ancient days.
The temple is on the banks of Vaigai river and is amidst a fertile environment called Janakayambathi. There is also shrine for Anjaneya. Sri Rama’s idol is testimony of the sculptural skill of Tamilnadu.
Prayer commitments:
The special commitment here is offering Kottai Nel. A Kottai is a quantity of 112 Madras measures followed in South Tamilnadu in those days (Pucca). Devotees offer Vadai garlands to Jayaveera Anjaneya in the temple. Offering Thirumanjanam, Tusi garlands, lighting ghee lamps are mainly undertaken by the devotees coming to this temple. Feeding the visitors. Offering donations for renovation and maintenance of the temple are also followed.

Speciality:
Jayaveera Anjaneyar: The shrine is on the right side of the Artha Mandapam. He grants all the boons of the devotees. The tail of Aanjaneya has a bell in the end. Any endeavour taken after worshipping Anjaneya never fails, believe the devotees. This is why he is called Jaya Veera Anjaneya (Anjaneya ensuring victory).
Festivals:
3 day Chitra Poornima in April-May. Azhagar getting into the river Vaigai draws a crowd of 50,000. The Dasavathara festival is very grandly celebrated. The deity is taken in procession in a palanquin.
11 day Panguni (March-April) Brahmmotsavam, Wedding festival, Pongal, Thai month 1st day on January 14, Navarathri, Vaikunda Ekadasi,Adipooram of Andal Festivals are celebrated in the temple.
History:
Mahalakshmi herself was born to King Janaka and brought great glory to him. King Janaka was much worried to find a fitting match to his daughter. He thought that Lord Narayana alone would be suitable to his daughter and came to Solavandan to perform penance to realize his ambition. The Janakai Narayanan Temple is but the memorial of the Janaka’s penance in the place. Lord Narayana came as Sri Ramachandra to marry Sita. It is said that people grateful to Janaka built the temple.
