Holkar Cricket Stadium, Indore
Formerly known as Maharani Usharaje Cricket Trust ground, the Holkar Stadium was rechristened in 2010. The ground, situated in the capital city of Madhya Pradesh, plays host to the state team for most of their Ranji Trophy games. Inducted as one of the venues for IPL 2011, the Holkar Stadium has witnessed two ODIs between India and England, in 2005 and 2008, the home team emerging victorious on both occasions.
Equipped with all the facilities of a world class cricket stadium, it has the capacity to accommodate close to 30,000 spectators. In the fourth season of the IPL, the Holkar Stadium will host two matches, both involving the Kochi Tuskers Kerala, Kings XI Punjab and Rajasthan Royals being the opposition teams respectively.
Like most of the grounds in the country, the pitch is batsmen-friendly. However, neither of the two ODIs here has seen a total in excess of 300 – India chased down 288 on the first occasion and defended 292 on the second. Despite the high scores in first-class matches, there have been several batting collapses at the ground.
