Chennai Super Kings
Owned by India Cements, Chennai Super Kings have been one of the consistent performers at IPL. Finishing as runners-up in the inaugural edition, they bagged the coveted title in 2010. For the first three editions, big ticket Indian players like MS Dhoni rubbed shoulders with international talents like Muttiah Muralitharan, Michael Hussey and Matthew Hayden and rising stars like Suresh Raina, Murali Vijay and Ravichandran Ashwin. The side went all the way at the South Africa edition of CLT20 making 2010 a doubly successful year.

Ahead of the IPL Player Auction 2011, the Super Kings retained the services of captain Dhoni, M Vijay, Raina and Albie Morkel. At the auction, not only did they bring back players like S Badrinath, Ashwin, Doug Bollinger and Hussey, but also made some inspired picks like Dwayne Bravo and Faf du Plessis. With a good dose of Indian players in their squad including the young Anirudha Srikkanth and Yo Mahesh, the Super Kings look a well-balanced outfit.

Bravo! CSK

Defending champions Chennai Super Kings have been one of the consistent performers at IPL. Finishing as runners-up in the inaugural edition, they bagged the coveted title in 2010. The side went all the way at the South Africa edition of CLT20 making 2010 a doubly successful year.

For the first three editions, big ticket Indian players like MS Dhoni rubbed shoulders with international talents like Muttiah Muralitharan, Michael Hussey and Matthew Hayden and rising stars like Suresh Raina, Murali Vijay and Ravichandran Ashwin.

Ahead of the IPL Player Auction 2011, the Super Kings retained the services of captain Dhoni, M Vijay, Raina and Albie Morkel.

Captain cool has more often than not outwitted the best in the business, remaining unfazed in pressure situations. The multi-faceted Raina, a key player in CSK’s double strike in 2010, is an important cog in the line-up.

At the IPL Player Auction 2011, CSK brought back players like S Badrinath, Ashwin, Doug Bollinger and Hussey and also made some inspired new picks like Dwayne Bravo and Faf du Plessis.

They did superbly to retain all-rounder Albie Morkel and to buy back the services of ‘Mr. Cricket’ Michael Hussey for USD 425,000 to give the side an edge.

Trinidadian Dwayne Bravo, who has represented Mumbai Indians in the previous three editions of IPL, is the perfect T20 player. He can play the conservative game but turn on the heat and send the ball a long way when the need arises, bowl with plenty of variety and is an outstanding fielder. Bravo’s batting style is a mixture of explosive hitting and composed thinking. A man for any crisis situation, his ingenuity can rescue even a lost cause.

South African Faf has displayed a calm temperament with his performances since his debut against India last year. Right up to their last game in the world Cup 2011 quarter-finals, he has shown that he is one soldier in the Proteas outfit who can go the distance.

Ben Hilfenhaus, with a strong built and stamina coupled with willingness to bowl long spells, came in at USD 100,000 and is an asset to the captain. The Tasmanian possesses a natural ability to swing the ball away from right-hand batsmen, making him a threat with the new ball and a must-have in a side.

Black Caps all-rounder Scott Styris, who was picked up for USD 200,000, is another significant addition to the squad.

With a good dose of Indian players in their squad including the young Anirudha Srikkanth and Yo Mahesh, the Super Kings look a well-balanced outfit ahead of IPL 2011.
