Introduction:

Are you interesting in games and sporting activities? Would you like to pursue it as a full-time career? Then a course on Physical Education is an apt choice for you. You can become a trainer, teacher, instructor or coach.

Eligibility:

Those aspiring for career in physical education must at least have a degree (B.Phy.Ed) in that subject. The minimum eligibility criteria for seeking admission to a degree course are 10+2 with physical education as one of the subjects. For admission to post graduate courses students must have degree in physical education. Apart from this, those willing to pursue short-term courses can enroll for certificate and diploma programmes offered by various universities and institutes across the country. The government of India has constituted the Sports Authority of India (SAI) to encourage youngsters in the field of sports. To this end, the SAI has created state-level branches to pick out the best talents in the state and promote them. The SAI trains coaches and sportspersons, conducts R&D, promotes sports, etc. Work areas and specialization: There are various career options available for those aspiring for a career in sports. They are: physical education teachers, coaches, umpire or referee, professional players, sports club managers, sports and business marketing, sports journalism, sports administration. Sportspersons with requisite educational qualifications are directly employed in Group C and D in government services. Those with exceptional sports skills and eligible for national-level tournaments are recruited by public sector undertakings and nationalized banks.
