Banks help people to save money, borrow money and invest money. Banking is a vast subject that deals with receiving deposits and lending. They provide a variety of other financial services like pension disbursements, insurance payments, providing demand drafts and the like. They receive deposits and pay interest on them and lend that money and charge interest at a higher rate. The difference in the interest rates makes up their profit. Banking is also a service industry that takes care of the needs of the people to handle their money in different ways. They help in business or personal needs including bill discounting, providing foreign exchange, traveler’s cheques, gift cheques and much more. Banks also help in the development of rural industries, agro based industries and self employment and entrepreneurship. They offer long term loans at low interest rates and subsidies to encourage the poor village and urban people for generating income for themselves and also employment to others.
