Banks help people to save money, borrow money and invest money. Banking is a vast subject that deals with receiving deposits and lending. They provide a variety of other financial services like pension disbursements, insurance payments, providing demand drafts and the like. They receive deposits and pay interest on them and lend that money and charge interest at a higher rate. The difference in the interest rates makes up their profit. Banking is also a service industry that takes care of the needs of the people to handle their money in different ways. They help in business or personal needs including bill discounting, providing foreign exchange, traveler’s cheques, gift cheques and much more. Banks also help in the development of rural industries, agro based industries and self employment and entrepreneurship. They offer long term loans at low interest rates and subsidies to encourage the poor village and urban people for generating income for themselves and also employment to others.

There are public sector and private banks that operate in our country to provide different kinds of financial services to the people. There are plenty of schemes from banks in which people can put their savings to good use.

To be eligible for a bank job a candidate has to be a graduate preferably in Commerce. The new recruits are given training in various departments of banking. There are training colleges that conduct orientation courses for the candidates from time to time. Plenty of job opportunities exist in the banking industry with the addition of multinational banks starting operations in India. The liberalization of Indian trade also has opened up many career avenues for the qualified candidates in banking and related subjects.

The Universities in Tamilnadu offering courses in banking and finance courses are spread across the state. Annamalai University offers Diploma in Banking and insurance management.
