Arts and Science graduates have plenty of options to pursue their careers. There is an endless variety of job opportunities that exist for them. Depending upon the subjects and the streams chosen there is a vast scope for exciting and well paying career paths. It was generally believed that the arts and science graduates usually have limited opportunities like clerical, teaching and sales etc. Others could find their way into the Armed Forces, Banking and Research. Specialized vocational skills such as Psychology, Archeology, Criminology, Mass communication, Journalism, Rural Development, Market Research and more are now available to both Arts and Science graduates to pursue careers in many different fields.

Science graduates can find employment in Pharmaceutical and food related manufacturing companies and government departments such as health and family welfare. Hospitals and hotels employ food technologists and nutritionists in big numbers.

They can also find lucrative opportunities in Medical Transcription and Medical billing and related jobs in call centers. The Corporate world offers thousands of job opportunities for the Arts and Science graduates in marketing, customer service, customer relations, logistics and training.

Arts or Science degree combined with other personal interests and talents is valuable for a variety of career paths in leadership and management capacities in many fields. They can enter the prestigious positions in the Government Services after passing the selection exams and interviews in Indian Administrative Service, Indian Foreign Service and Indian Police Service etc. High positions in Government include economists, scientists, judges, diplomats and more. Government Departments offer excellent job opportunities arts and science graduates in all aspects of public service. Their services are utilized for communicating with the public, enumeration and during elections etc.

Many other Arts and Science graduates opt for careers in Law after qualifying in the legal studies. Broadcasting, Advertising, film making also offer attractive job opportunities for the candidates with the right aptitude and talent. There are special courses they can undergo to enter into such fields. Excellent opportunities exist in the fields of commercial art, visual communication, product design and media. Self employment avenues are plenty in the fields of trade and commerce, performing arts and teaching.

Arts and Science Colleges prepare students for a bright future imparting education in the specific subjects. Arts graduates fill the job market as they are highly literate, well-informed and flexible individuals. Many candidates are equipped with expertise in research methods, creativity and grasp of problems, and problem solving, presentation skills, computer skills and in written and oral communication.

Some well known colleges that offer courses in arts and science subjects in Chennai are Ethiraj College, A.M. Jain College, Loyola College, Anna Adarsh College for Women, Presidency College, Queen Mary’s College, Madras Christian College, Vivekananda College. Presidency College, Chennai etc. The graduates form these colleges have found excellent jobs in the Government as well as Corporate and Voluntary Organizations.
