All eyes on Indian actress Akshara Hassan

With famous actors Kamal Hassan and Sarika Thakur as parents, it’s no wonder Akshara Hassan is generating buzz ahead of her debut in upcoming Hindi movie Shamitabh.

The 23-year-old will star alongside Bollywood stars Amitabh Bachchan and Dhanush in the movie, set for release on Feb 6. Some facts about Akshara Hassan:

Before standing in front of the camera, Akshara Hassan stood behind it. She was the assistant director for Rahul Dholakia in the 2010 film Society, which starred her mother. She was also assistant director for her father for his 2013 film Vishwaroopam.

She turned down offers to act while working as an assistant director, famously rejecting a role in Kadal, directed by Mani Ratnam.

Unlike her sister Shruti Hassan who is singing the song Sannata for Akshara’s upcoming movie Shamitabh, Akshara Hassan has openly admitted that she is a terrible singer.

Her parents are divorced, so she lives with her mother in Mumbai while maintaining regular phone contact with her father, who lives in Chennai.

She got her first tattoo done when she was 20 and within the next 21/2 years she got nine more.

Akshara Hassan attended the Indus International School in Bengaluru, which has been ranked the best school in India for the past three years by education portal Education World.

She respects Shahrukh Khan and one of her dreams as an actress is to work with him.

She dated actor Vivaan Shah for two years.

Akshara trained in ballroom dancing and won the bronze test in the UK Alliance of Professional Teachers of Dancing when she was just 16.

Back in her high school days she regularly played football, her favourite sport. She has said she regrets missing the opportunity to watch the 2014 World Cup, as she was too busy shooting for Shamitabh.

She loves video games, and has said she can’t stop herself from grabbing a console when one is nearby.

Akshara Hassan is close childhood friends with actor Tanuj Virwani. Their parents, Ratni Agnihotri and Kamal Hassan, played lovers in the romantic musical Ek Duuje Ke Liye.

She has moved to Delhi where she will stay for a few months to improve on her Hindi.

Akshara Hassan said no to Pawan Kalyan?

Akshara Hassan, daughter of Kamal Hassan-Sarika and younger sister of Shruti Haasan, reportedly turned down Golden chance to pair up with Pawan Kalyan.

According to grapevine, the makers of Gabbar Singh-2 have approached Akshara for the Gabbar Singh sequel to which Akshara gently declined citing that it’d raise expectations bar for her next films and so responsibilities.

Since Shruti was the female lead in blockbuster Gabbar Singh, Pawan evinced interest to rope in Akshara for the sequel which would also add more buzz to the project. But Akshara could not agree as she wants to take some more time before making her debut down the south and wants to prove herself with her maiden film Shamitabh opposite Dhanush and Amitabh.

Whatever be the reasons, Akshara has missed the golden opportunity and now the lucky chance bagged by Anisha Ambrose.
