Though Sargunam’s claim to fame was Kalavani, his critically acclaimed Vaagai Sooda Vaa proved that he is a layered and nuanced filmmaker.

With Naiyaandi though, he is tracing his roots back to comedy with Dhanush and Nazriya Nazim in the lead. Here is why you shouldn’t miss Naiyaandi.

  • There is Dhanush. If that’s not enough, there’s Dhanush in a comic avatar after a long, long time. We all know how sparkling he can get in comedy. It might do him some good after all those intense roles (read Raanjhanaa, Maryan). And us too.
  • And then there is Sargunam – with two well received movies (one commercially and another one critically), this could well be his hat-trick if it worked out.
  • You have seen her and loved her in Raja Rani. Nazriya is back and she is in a full-fledged lead role in Naiyaandi. What with her huge fan following online, she is turning out to be a social media super star.
  • There is the emerging comedy favorite – Soori. He might not be Tamil cinema’s answer to Santhanam but he is good nevertheless.
  • There is good music by Ghibran and the Teddy Bear song refuses to get out of our heads. We think songs are going to be a highlight of the movie.
  • Lastly, the exciting trailer seems to be doing its rounds in the internet and is quite a hit. Only a preamble of what is to come.

  1. Nazriya’s complaint to the police is misleading

It is always our concern and truthful wish that those who come to cinema as professional, to earn their bread and butter, especially the young girls, should be given their due rights and respects to their feelings, and vice versa. While we appreciate and demand justice to the genuine feelings of Nazriya Nazim, we are not convinced about the complaint she had handed over to the Police Commissioner.

Cinema in itself is a religion and those who involve themselves are of one community called – film community. It is pertinent to point out that unlike now, those who were involved in Cinema are looked down and were always treated less than par in their social background. Still no one complained then or atleast as far as we know, that one hails from this community or that community and so they were not properly treated by the society. Every artiste must understand that directly or indirectly through Cinema you are doing yeomen service to the society, by providing them good entertainment, albeit, for a price, to get themselves relieved from their monotonous lives. When you do this service for a social cause, where has the religion come from? If any religion raises its head in Cinema, then certainly it is not show business for public cause, but a private business for some exclusive society. Why this prologue I am giving here, is because, Nazriya Nazim, by writing such a complaint which was handed over to the Police Commissioner, committed a grave error, probably under the influence of some unscrupulous religious elements. She had written in her complaint that some portions of the films are not to the liking of her family and community. Yes, while she and her family has every liberty to express their opinion, where did the community come into the picture? At the outset if any one who is going to bring in their community into the picture, should not have ventured into Cinema. Because only in Cine-field, there is no community or religion and everyone there belong to Cinema religion or film community.

By bringing in her community in the picture of her allegations, we suspect that either Nazriya has fallen into the hands of religious fundamentalists/unscrupulous elements, who wanted to capitalize on the issue, or Nazriya herself may have some motives behind it. Though we also prefer to give her the benefit of doubt looking to the small age she is, who can always be swayed away by her near and dear. We hope and appeal to her to please not to indulge in such cheap gimmicks wittingly or unwittingly, or under duress, because your community too says to respect others’ emotions!

  2. Women’s group come in support of Nazriya

Director Sarkunam nor Naiyaandi team would not have expected that Nazriya’s allegations would turn out to be a bombshell. Nazriya is given an appointment to meet the commissioner of Police by 12 noon today after which she would be meeting the media. It is also said that Nazriya was requested to compromise by Nadigar Sangam on the issue suggesting that she has already proved her innocense through her allegations in FB. Dissatisfied Nazriya approached the Police who have given permission to meet the commissioner in the afternoon. It is also heard that she is ready to withdraw the her complaint with Nadigar Sangam and not approach the police if the film unit openly tender an unqualified apology on the issue. Meanwhile, Women’s right group have come in full support for the young actor alleging male dominance. FB is now an operations theatre tearing apart the Nazriya’s hip portion by all and sundry. With all these, Sargunam and his team should be very happy that his film has received the maximum widest publicity possible, for his film, FREE OF COST, thanks to Nazriya!

  3. I think this will be one of those movies that really reminds us to live in the moment. It’s great to know that Bollywood is getting back to making quality films again.
