Kochadaiyaan Movie New Posters 3

The teaser of Superstar Rajnikanth-starrer Kochadaiyaan has crossed 1.5 million hits in just one day after its release.

The teaser has already garnered more than 1 million hits on the production company’s YouTube channel within just 24 hours. Being made on a budget of over Rs100 crore, Rajnikanth‘s Kochadaiyaan is tipped to be India’s first motion capture technology film being made on lines of Hollywood films like Avatar.

Kochadaiyaan to release on Rajnikanth’s Birthday?

Kochadaiyaan Movie New Posters

The official trailer of superstar Rajnikanth’s latest film Kochadaiyaan was released today on YouTube. Directed by his daughter Soundarya Rajnikanth Ashwin, the film’s trailer has already gone viral. Here are six things you must know about the movie.

All in the family

Several web pundits are predicting that father-in-law Rajnikanth‘s Kochadaiyaan trailer will be a bigger hit in the virtual world than son-in-law Dhanush’s Kolaveri di. This is the directorial debut of Soundarya. Elder sister Aishwarya has directed three films with Dhanush in the lead.

Though motion capture animation (mo-cap) movies already have already made in India, what makes Kochadaiyaan unique is the ‘performance capture’ technique. In mo-cap, actors wear special sensors all over their body and shoot the scene in pitch darkness. Dozens of special cameras capture these movements and the visual data is manipulated according to the director’s wish. But mo-cap characters lack facial subtleties and the eyes look like zombies. In ‘performance capture’ facial expressions are also captured. So characters are more lifelike. Also Kochadaiyaan, which was in the making for over three years, is done in photo realistic 3D.

Triple Rajnikanth

The superstar plays three roles-a father and two sons. The lead character is said to be a bit of a teacher and a spiritual leader.

Rajnikanth, the singer

Though Rajni was initially reluctant, music director AR Rahman persuaded him to sing for the film. This is the second time he is singing for a film. His first song was adikkudhu kuliru (it’s chill out there) for the film Mannan (King). The composer was Ilayaraja. The music will be officially launched in October, probably along with another trailer.

Dance animation

Apart from singing, Rajnikanth‘s performance captured self has dance sequences too. Perhaps this will be a first too for an Indian animated movie.

…and finally release date

According to insiders, the film will be released on December 12, the superstar’s birthday!

  2. A down to earth person… A man who neither holds a wig for public appearances, nor dyes his hair…

A living legend and “The biggest Superstar” Indian cine industry has ever seen… A Marathi standing as an Icon of Tamil Nadu..!! Love you Thalaivaa!

  3. Rajinikanth’ oru thdavai chonnaal 100 thadavai chonnamathiri. . athu eppdi ayya !!! oru thadavai chonnaal 100 thadavai aakum !!!!

  4. The first trailer of the highly anticipated Tamil period film ‘Kochadaiyaan’, starring superstar Rajnikanth has been unveiled Monday.

The film, which will mark the directorial debut of the 62-year-old actor’s daughter Soundarya R Ashwin, narrates the story of a 8th century Pandiya King, Kochadaiyaan Ranadhiran.

The teaser crossed 10 lakh views by Tuesday afternoon.

The trailer begins with the words – ‘There are heroes, there can be superheroes but there is only one…’ followed by the grand entry of Rajnikanth in a warrior avatar.

  5. I’m kind of disappointed with the visual effects. It really isn’t along the lines of Avatar or Tin Tin. The VFX is just terrible to be honest. Its like the first Age of Empire Games.

I Just hope the story, acting and music is good enough to take my mind of the ‘quite average’ computer graphics. My hopes where high when i saw the stills of Kochadaiyaan.

I honestly thought that India has finally moved up. I guess that being the first time that India has used motion capture, you can’t expect a lot.

  6. Completely agree. Indian Visual Effects teams have produced below-par fare except for a very few handful of occasions and this is no exception, rather more or on the lines of terrible. There is no shape or form for the characters, don’t know what they did for 3 years. It is like first Age of Empires or Quake 3 which came out like more than 10 years back. Absolute let down. If this is a teaser I am not sure how anyone can sit in there for the whole movie, it is probably going to be an eyesore. Was really expecting a lot more than this.
